Clarifying the Alexandrian Macedonian list

Reading through Immortal Fire in detail, I noticed the provision for Hypaspists and Foot Companions to be deployed as Light Spear/Swordsmen if these stands are paid for at this higher value. A whole list of questions came to mind:

First, is this essentially an all/0 upgrade? Or, can I have one BG of Foot Companions paid for as the Light Spear/Swordsmen and use this option?

Second, I assume that in cases where one 12 stand BG becomes two 6 stand BGs that the order of deployment will be altered accordingly to accommodate the extra BGs. So, is it correct to assume that one would have to make their decision on this option before they deployed their first group of BGs?

Is there anything else worthy of note here?

The upgrade is on a per BG basis, not all or none. The option to upgrade 12 stand BGs is removed in the list errata so you can only do it for 8's.
