D-Day landings in June 1941 ?

Post by julyderek »

Hi,

I seem to have good success when playing as Allies to land my UK units in France just as the Axis start their offensive in Russia. At that time, the Axis have shifted all their units to the Eastern front including mostly all Air units. So my units have a easy time in landing and creating a beach-head. The Axis player then has to pull out units from the Eastern front to the West (which I am sure is painful to him).

If the Normandy landing go to date in 1944 then the Axis will have extremely powerful Air units plus if he has decimated the Russians by then, lots of extra units to shift to the Western front.

Does landing the Allies in France just after the Axis start their drive into Russia, seem sensible ? Do many players do that ?

Derek

PS : I am playing the Vanilla MHCEAW Gold edition.

You've got to balance exploiting the AI and challenging gameplay. I'm in a similar position in my SP game. It's Dec. '41. I could probably land in France; however, the Americans are not in yet and their units are not available. I certainly wouldn't be able to overrun the Germans in France. Instead, I've begun an invasion of Italy. The Germans are well into the SU at this time; however, winter has just hit. I have given the Axis a minor advantage in the difficulty setting.

I'd be very surprised if a Human player fell for this. For starters, I know I never withdraw *all* my air units, and often keep a sub hanging around ready to slice through and troops foolhardy enough to embark from the UK (assuming it isn't overrun).
