anyone else having this problem?

Post by scorehouse »

I've just replayed 40/41 and both times I haven't received a Vigilant or Field Repair Hero and only one 1 each of AT support, expert support, and double support. is this just the luck of the draw? Also, if I restart 41 as a brand new campaign, my 3rd try, knowing if I import, I'll bring my current Heroes with me, will the Heroes given to me in the new 41 be in the same order and the same heroes as before?

Heroes are pseudorandom,
each time you start a campaign a 'seed' is generated,
and the heroes are generated from that seed.

So you can restart a campaign any number of times to get heroes you like.

If you play with 'Killer Team' you can get quick results.

Otherwise one may conclude that this is more trouble than it is worth.
There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.

The point is: heroes are random.

The seed, which was introduced in the beta to avoid players just restarting scenarios until they got the hero they wanted, doesn't change that. Yes, you can use cheats to 'look forward' or endlessly restart Killer Team until you get a laughably good trio. But it's still random.

In my current play through I have 1 at hero and 3 arty support heroes. I wish it was the other way around. 4 consolidators. I almost never seen those before. A double attack hero. Hardly seen that since the before Axis Operations.

They are generated Randomly. Which is great in my opinion. It encourages different playstyles and unit compositions.

In my first playthrough of AO is got many heroes forcing my enemies to instantly withdraw and surrender.
Now I got more movement-based and support heroes so I build my units around those heroes.

Yes and no. ;)
I always play from SCW on in my playthroughs. For diffrent reasons i played AO42 only 1 time, but at the end of this pt from SCW to AO42 i got 6 or 7 Double attack heros in my team Oo
And thats kinda boring.
And i dislike "the encircle and capture" playstyle, but i get envelopment/shock tactics + overwhelming attack quite often. Same with scavenger and ZOC heros. And even if i dont use them together, overwhleming attacks has the potential to destroy my frontline ;) and shock tactics/envelopment often leads to surrenders.

I really enjoy heros in PC2, they add spice and fun to the game and the experience. But there is no way to "echange" them within their "Tier of Power". For example my Core that finished AO42 would really like to exchange some double attack heros for vigilant/rapid fire/double move/firststrike/camoflage heros.

And of course you can sell hero for prestige, and i do this. Mostly in SCW because depending of the neg traits and challenges combination i try out, prestige is an issue due to my spanish prestige burning friends ;)

But i would really prefer some changes. The seed that generates heros might be altered to privde a hero pool that is a little more balanced (or the possibility to activate this in the advanced options). Or some chance to exchange/reroll them. Or the chance to "buy" heros from high command for prestige, but that would encourage players to even more encircle and capture playstyle.

Not nearly enough

But the Spanish Super tank os20 is only 6 slots with Panzer general. Same with os25 cav with avenger. So I make do.

Never used more than 3 though. Oh and 3 of 4 I got clustered at start of 1941. Very random indeed.

Kind of fun to make suboptimal heroes work. My no surrender first aid pioneer is doing great things

love the "Matador" tank. my fav right now is the Sturer with Camo, Field Repair, Artillery Support. Expert Support or 1.5. already has AT support keep a Camo AA nearby and nothing gets thru!!! in fact I was in the KV 1 accumulation mode but made the mistake of having the Sturer behind a Wurf. the KV's seemed to attack from nowhere and Emil obliterated one after the other. Had to restart the scenario to make sure I could get my KV numbers...but damn was it fun to watch. better than a kickoff return reply!

"Matador"? Love that name. Adopting it :D

Emil has a rather low Soft Attack, doesn't it? And only 3 ammo. Not sure if I see the merit of Arty support on it.

since I keep it primarily in support, lately due to lack of Field Repair Heroes :( , and its low reserve number, 3 shots is enough. its normally protected from direct attack and there's only so many hexes that need covering left for units to support. recently used in the battle where the Russians assault the salient trying to cross 3 different bridges crossing locations simultaneously. Flame Tank, J1, then Emil and Wurf right behind in support. enabled me to sweep around from the far left crossing, secure the left flank, then move in for pick and choose equipment capture.

I'll use it to surround but rarely is it even attacked by the encircled unit. that's what Provacateur Recons are for
