Yelnya Offensive
anyone have a strategy to breakout early and capture all those juicy Russian tanks. I seemed to be stuck in defense wiping them out on the bridges. wish there were away to break through, split units, surround a bunch of armor, then capture them for my own inventory. anyone tried or successfully accomplished this?

Re: Yelnya Offensive
This scenario does not fit for encircle & capture, the frontline is too narrow to flank enemy combat groups.

Re: Yelnya Offensive
No. You have to drive them all the way to the front.

damn the bad luck
Re: Yelnya Offensive
Use infantry to defend the crossings, send your armor from the northwest deployment zone through the forest. It will take a few turns for the Soviets to get into position suitable for encirclement. The units in the northern and middle crossings can be surrounded and captured. I usually manage to capture a few of the southern ones too.

Re: Yelnya Offensive
what infantry units do u use? do u back then up with artillery and AT?
Re: Yelnya Offensive
Usual suspects, grenadiers are good for defense - I use one each on the northern and middle crossings. I use three paratroopers for the eastern bridge. They need to fly to get there in time and entrench. They are supported by artillery and AT. I normally use a 155 mm artillery unit in the eastern crossing, as it also has AT support. One AT each at the other two locations. These can be regular artillery pieces. I also have two recon vehicles, one supporting the middle and the other supporting the eastern crossings.
I normally deploy a couple of tanks or infantry (Azul) in the slots where Wagner is, then retreat them to the west in the first couple of turns until they meet up with my remaining panzers. Then I can begin the encirclement. I send my Wurfrahmen 40 with the panzers.
I tend to deploy two fighters, two fighter-bombers and two Stukas for air support, and an additional strategic bomber if I have enough core slots left.

Re: Yelnya Offensive
totally different on this end. Tanks with high defense ratings + vigilant. 21's with OS15, double attack and an AT{Emil) with double and expert support plus camo and field repair. for some reason I'm all the way thru Byransk and still don't have a field repair or camo and only 1 scavenger hero?? and only 1 zero slot?
