named units and people

Hi apols if there is already an answer to this, i looked but could not see it. some units and some citizens / slaves have individual names, is this material of just cosmetic. if its material what are the circumstances leading to the unit creation? thanks (eg "Appollonides own" peltasts)

That's cosmetic, they come from events or regional decisions. Pure flavor :D
