Unable to send challenge to player, Authentication Failed

I can log into multiplayer, but it says "Server Error: 6" under my games. When I try to make a challenge and sent to my friend, it says "Authentication Failed". I'm guessing it means that it can't contact the server, because I am able to sign in. Are servers down? Is there a problem when ports that I don't know about?

So I think I've figured out the problem. As you may notice, my username is Sauerkraut_RoB. I went to create a new account, and it says 'usernames and passwords may only be letters and numbers, no special characters'. So, this policy must've changed from allowing special characters to not allowing them.

However, I went to create a new account, and no matter what I type in, it says username invalid. Literally nothing will work. I imagine that's because I already have an account.

So, it makes sense why I was able to sign in here, and 'kinda' sign in on the game, with the in-ability to make a game, and also explains why I can sign in on the forums, but not the main site. As you can see, I joined October of last year. Unfortunately, username policy has changed.

So what am I supposed to do? Do I have a non-functional game now? I'm genuinely curious what the mentality was behind, well, for a lack of nicer words, screwing a large swathe of the fanbase like this. I'm guessing I should just refund the game on steam since my username no longer works?
