Knight & Sergeants cost

Post by General Shapur »

I'm not sure if it's from the recent update - or it's always been like this but....

K & S mounted are 72 points - in some armies, they are armoured in others heavily armoured, but both cost the same despite there being a significant advantage to the heavily armoured knights in sustained melee.

The dismounted k & s armoured vs heavily armoured are 69 vs 78 points - so should the mounted merely armoured k & s be about 63 points? If not, what's the justification for them being the same cost?

Two time periods, two equipments, two price systems : early Knights vs Later ones ?

Late Knights move 3 and are Severely Disordered in Rough. Early Knights move 4 and are only Moderately Disordered in Rough. The slower movement in particular can make things very tricky, so it really is something of a tradeoff. On foot it's a straight upgrade of 75 more armor POA, with no drawbacks in exchange.

Note that Late Knights were 74 before the update, but many players found them underpowered in MP. A two point price cut combined with zocs no longer blocking cavalry Fall Backs seems to have them in a good place.

Yes, SnuggleBunnies is correct.

It changed in the 1.1.6 update. Previously the later Heavily Armoured Knights were 74 points, but many players thought that the reduced movement of the Heavily Armoured Knights offset the advantage of the extra armour, so the points cost was reduced to 72. That did not affect the dismounted knights, as the movement rates of the earlier and later knights are the same.

Also, late knights get an extra 50 sword POA on top of the armor advantage that I don't think the early knights get?

Both Early and Late Knights get:

0 Swordsmen POA vs Steady Spears
100 vs Foot
150 vs Cavalry

So in terms of combat, the difference is armor; 50 armor POA for Early, 125 for Late. But note that actual armor advantage maxes out at 100 vs Foot and 50 vs Cav
