Apulian army: a serius lack that can be easly fixed

Post by MrCrow »

Hi all,

i am apulian and i really love this game. I really like the historical accuracy and this is why i think that you will appreciate my consideration about the apulian army: it should have also veteran italian foot like the italian tribes army!.

Historically speaking, ancient apulians (also called Iapigi) fought many times against Greek Hoplites and won.Their roster in FOG II is way to weak to do it. Furthermore their equipment was not so different from the one used by other Italian Tribes (sabines, volsci, ect) looking at the weapons and armors that have been found in tombs.

So now i want to appeal directly to Slitherine/Byzantine Games: is there any hope to see veteran italian foot also for the apulian roster in a future patch? Is there any reason for this lack that i am not considering?

If anyone is interested abut some historical facts about iapigi, i want to share this interesting video.

IIRC the main reason was because (apart from lack of any actual evidence of such units) the Apulians have the advantage of a much larger Cavalry arm than the Bruttians and Lucanians. This suggests that most of their "nobles" fought as Cavalry, whereas in those other armies they would mostly have fought on foot.

Also, if they did have them (or at least if they had a similar number to the Bruttians and Lucanians) nobody competitive would ever field a Bruttian or Lucanian army as the Apulians would be better all round.

Having said that, they could have a few such units, without making Apulians a "no brainer" to pick over those other armies.

I will make a note to add a few in the next update - whenever that will be.

It would be great :D Your explanation is perfectly understandable, but i think that at the moment Bruttians and Lucanians are a bit in advantage over Apulians.
Anyway your solutions seems the right thing to do.

Thank you Richard, now I'm counting on that. :D
