Sengoku Jidai style campaign map would be wonderful
I just bought the Reconquista DLC and really like it.
I was thinking that the Sengoku Jidai's campaign style would be fun for this game. Same style like a map with provinces that can be fought over with armies we recruit using points we get from income.
I like in Sengoku especially for the Joseon and Chinese maps we have various factions to choose from.
Please consider adding this.
Note that I really like the campaigns already in these games both historical and sandbox.

Have you played Field of Glory Empires for Field of Glory 2?
I expect at some point there will also probably be a version for Medieval.

Not the same kind of campaign maps, the SJ/PS/FoGII series and FoG/E not being the same kind of games.

Right, I know that. However, for people who want to play campaigns then Empires is a great option. I was asking if the OP even knew about Empires.

Yes I have Fog Empires and played it a lot. Very good game.
But I still miss the Sengoku Jidai style campaign. I like the idea of recruiting troops in provinces and having big battles pushing back and forth in a war of attrition and land grabbing. I play KOEI games too 'Nobunaga's Ambition' and 'Romance of the 3 Kingdoms' series so I was brought up on that kind of map campaign style. I think Pike & Shot might have a similar campaign style but I haven't played it yet.

P&S has a campaign map too. I like it very very much.

The SJ and P&S campaigns had a lot going for them.
Unfortunately they stopped modders in their tracks. It was hard enough for us to create the assets in a way the system would recognise because it was concieved with a pre-CC version of Photoshop and subsequent improvements in PS made it very problematic. We tried to explain the process at the time but no one ( AFAIK ) created a new campaign once that system was implemented. Thats why it was dropped like a hot stone for FoG2.

Thanks for answering a question I had. That's a pity. At least, these campaigns does exist in PS/SJ.

The user created campaigns that I created for P&S and SJ all used existing campaign maps, ie the ECW map for the Wars of the Roses campaign.
I was going to have a go at creating new maps for some new campaigns I was working on, but then FoG2 was released, and that was the end of my P&S modding! I'm not sure if I could have successfully made the maps, but I had read all the instructions, and if memory serves me correct, I thought I had a chance.
To be honest, those old map campaigns had a lot of drawbacks. They were often very frustrating, I remember one Polish v Russian custom campaign that took about 60 (or more) turns to get a win. I am sure they could be tweaked though to make them better.

Truth be told I don't care for Empires. The campaigns for Pike and Shot and Sengoku Jidai however I like, all the units are available and it is focused just around actual campaigns, I enjoy Field of Glory more than Pike and Shot but find myself playing the latter on single player far more simply because the campaigns are more fun. If I had to attribute this to a concrete reason I might say greater visibility and diversity of choice on the strategic level, you are actually maneuvering armies around instead of just deciding "intercept the enemy army or lift the siege." Only real complaint I have with Pike and Shot's campaign mode is that you can't decide when to retreat and it is entirely automatic, otherwise I really don't have any issues with it.SLancaster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 8:38 am Have you played Field of Glory Empires for Field of Glory 2?

Patrick Ward, if there was a DLC adding in the Sengoku style map campaign to Medieval, I would definitely buy it and others too. Then it could be limited to people who wanted it. Please consider it.
Paul59, that 60 turn campaign you had is actually what I like about those classic map campaigns. Longer is better for me. I actually feel sad when epic campaigns come to a end.
Buttons, we like the same style of campaigns. About the retreats, I didn't mind them being out of my control cause it added some randomness to the campaign like a kind of RNG result.

I don't mind forced retreats but I would like the option to choose to retreat even if it has a chance of failure (possibly even have a collective mobility value for armies based on size and cavalry/infantry ratio). Not a big issue at all though. Another thing I dislike is you cannot resolve all battles, mostly because I like to do a degree of roleplaying in my games and thus would kind of like to designate an army as being the one I am personally leading auto-resolving the rest. The DLC idea I kind of like, my issue is the number of possible campaigns, eg. instead of two campaigns per DLC in that campaign map style we just get four total campaigns in the lone DLC. However, and I'm not a programmer or game dev so I may be completely off base, I feel like you could just make preset maps and then let players customize campaigns. For example you could have a Britain map, which is a province map of the British isles. The player can then select provinces to be inaccessible (outside of the scenario's scope), choose the armies and their starting territories, and done. In that way making campaigns would really just be about designing and programming the maps.

You might enjoy a campaign system (Tides of Conquest) which I put together using the Unity game engine. It has an AI for singleplayer.
