How does the game plays/Some more info pls !

Post by PDiFolco »

Hello
I received Slith'newsletter and would likely be interested, but can't figure what the game looks like... no demo, few screenies, and a very short description on the site.
Relly we'd need to have some more details : it looks a bit like Westnoth, with series of battles, but what is in exactly ? How many types of troops ? Upgrades ? How work combat ? Economy ??

Its quite abstract so not really like Wesnoth though I have never played that game. It's more like Chess with lots of extra features. There is no luck - level 2 units beat level 1, level 3 beat level 2. It's got puzzle elements but is also a strategy game. Probably best to hear other players thoughts on it - I find it hard to describe!

We'll see if we can make a demo avaialble.

this is probably one of the best games i have ever played. chess extra is a great explaniation of the game. the simplicity and complexity blend together to make a game that will become a classic for all time. this game is a must have for any strategy lovers.

You should view is more as a digital tabletop game I think, it is really enjoyable. The more land you own, the more wealth you generate, try and expand by thinking trhough every turn and by placing your troops on strategic positions.

First, it's not really a "historical wargame", it's a chess/checkers style strategy game: very simple but also very "addictive".

There are three unit "types", representing spearmen, archers, and cavalry (the representation is purely visual, they could just as well have been circles, squares, and triangles). Each unit type has 3 possible levels, which you can either buy outright or combine lower level units to form higher level ones. A level 3 ALWAYS beats a level 2, which ALWAYS beats a level 1, which removes the defeated piece from play as in chess. Each of the three unit types also beats one of the other unit types of the same level, so it's a "rock, paper, scissors" style game. Finally, there are fortifications of level 1 and 2, which cannot be removed by any unit of their own level.

The Skirmish mode creates a random map and seeds the various factions throughout the map. The Campaign mode puts you through a series of pre-made maps with different victory conditions and restrictions. If you're looking for a "Civ" style game or a clash between armies, this isn't it. If you want to play a fairly challenging yet quick 1-3 hour game, this fills the bill nicely.

Very fun game.

Think of it as multiplayer chess on a randomized hex board.
