2021 team event - The Emperor's Throne - Round 1
2021 team event - The Emperor's Throne - Round 1
Below is a description of the battles and mechanism for the event. We will form two teams and each round each player plays one game. At the end of each round, we will count up the victories on each side and whoever has done best will become Emperor for the following round. The winner of Round 5 wins the event and becomes Immortal Emperor.
It is essentially a loose framework for a series of games and offers a chance to explore new armies, throw banter at the opponents and generally enjoy the game.
Please let me know here if you would like to join.

The Ming Empire is in decline, beset by rebellions and pressure from the Manchu in the North.
(Winners of each round play army marked with asterisk in the next.)
Game One - 1627 - Jurchen Bannermen v Joseon
The Jurchen have been fighting the Ming for some years and invade Joseon hoping that victory will yield much needed resources so they can continue the campaign.
Jurchen Bannermen 1622-1628 v Joseon 1618 - 1700
A Joseon victory strengthens the Ming camp and the Joseon players play the Ming in Round 2.
A Jurchen victory strengthens the influence of the Northern tribes and the Jurchen players control the Ming armies in Round 2.
Game Two - Peasant Revolt 1627-47
The people of Shensi province in the North West rebel and Warlords emerge. The Emperor's armies desperately try to stem the tide.
Ming Northern Army 1597-1683* v Tribal Rebels 1595-1700
Game Three - The short-lived Shun Dynasty
As Ming authority collapses, warlords gain strength and new dynasties are declared, but the Manchu/Qing are their constant enemies.
Northern Rebels 1597 - 1683* v Qing Bannermen 1636-1700
Game Four - Koxinga fights back, 1655-59
Cheng Ch'eng-Kun (aka Koxinga), son of a pirate, builds up a force of Ming loyalists and marches North to restore a Ming Emperor.
Koxinga's army 1647-1662* v Qing 1636-1700
Game Five - Qing extend power to Mongolia, 1686-1700
The Ming have given way to the Northern barbarians and the Emperor is now Manchu. They seek to quell the rebellion of the Western Mongols in the far North. Defeat will bring anarchy back to China once more.
Qing 1636-1700* v Western Mongols 1650 - 1700, Steppe terrain

Need you ask?
And to all fans of Sengoku Jidai casually reading this thread, why not give it a try, even if it will be your first foray into multiplayer gaming? The regular participants are a friendly and encouraging bunch, and you can get a good feel for how to best to utilise the various armies by watching some of the games posted on SnuggleBunnies' YouTube channel:

Re: 2021 team event - The Emperor's Throne
What's the timeframe for the start of this event? In a couple of weeks or a couple of months? I missed a FOG 2 player organized tournament I had already signed up for because I didn't bother logging in for a 2 week period and missed PMs.
Re: 2021 team event - The Emperor's Throne
We will start in the newt week or so, with approximately one moth deadline for each game. So it is a relaxed timescale. Don't worry, you are in!pompeytheflatulent wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 2:53 pm What's the timeframe for the start of this event? In a couple of weeks or a couple of months? Re: 2021 team event - The Emperor's Throne
Looking forward to it. Although I do have my fingers crossed on not getting stuck with the army that has mandatory buy size 400 cavalry units.ahuyton wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 7:41 pmWe will start in the newt week or so, with approximately one moth deadline for each game. Sure thing Alan but I may have a revolt on my hands if my record doesn't improve soon!

2021 team event - The Emperor's Throne - Round 1
So I suggest the following teams:
Emperor - playing the Joseon in Game 1
Kiwiwarlord (Captain)
Snugglebunnies
GentlemanRanker
SMJohnso77
Pretenders - playing the Jurchen (+200 points) in Game 1
Gdod (Captain)
Pompeytheflatulent
Dang
ahuyton
Set up with agricultural terrain, wide battlefield, large armies (but in Game 1 only a 200 point bonus to the Jurchen to even out the armies a little, as the consensus is that the Jurchen are overpriced).
Match-ups
Kiwiwarlord v Pompeytheflatulent
Snugglebunnies v Dang
GentlemanRanker v Gdod
SMjohnso77 v ahuyton
Can the pretenders set up the game please and let's try to finish by the end of the month.

Do you mean Joseon 1200 points vs Jurchen 1400 points
or
Joseon 1000 points vs Jurchen 1200 points?
Cause the map defaults to very wide as soon as one of the armies goes over 1200 points.

Ah, OK, well very wide is fine. I had meant Joseon 1200 v Jurchen 1400pompeytheflatulent wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 10:55 pm Do you mean Joseon 1200 points vs Jurchen 1400 points

Hope that is OK with everyone.

Re: 2021 team event - The Emperor's Throne - Round 1
Greetings esteemed Pretenders
Be prepared for "Brass in Pocket" if you become the "Talk of the Town".
This is a "Message of Love" for those loyal retainers "Back on the Chain Gang". No-one can stay in the "Middle of the Road" during this conflict, particularly as we have over "2000 Miles" to conquer. "Don't Get Me Wrong" the whole of China will soon be "My Baby" and "I'll Stand by You" during the entire conflict. And together we'll be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
From the office of GDod, Captain to Wanyan Yongji - Seventh Emperor of the mighty Jurchen Jin dynasty.

Well, apparently spending an extra 9 points to add regimental guns to matchlocks just gives those opium addicts an excuse to waste all of their reaction fire shooting off just the light guns, at long range, at half arc.
What's sad is that I think this is the second time I got ripped off by these guys. You'd figure I'd learn my lesson after the first time.
