Thoughts on allies for Catalan Company.

Hi everyone

I'm looking to build up a Catalan Company army and am not really convinced about taking an ally.

If I want to maximise BG's then the cheaper cost of an ally plus the additional cheap LF in the Byzantine list will enable me to do that. Aside from that both the Byzantine and Alan ally really don't offer anything that the Catalan Company doesn't already have.

Your thoughts: maximise BG's with cheap Byzantine ally or have flexibility of all commanders being able to assist all of army.

I wouldn't use an ally, but then I'm not in the 'less then 14 BG armies are hopeless' camp either. I get 12-13 BGs out of the Catalan Company and find that sufficient.

I took catalan allies to a comp as part of a Latin Greek army and at no point felt that I had too few BGs. Even when losing it was my own tactical choices and not the army size.

That said - 16 superior heavily armoured knights are pretty forgiving.
