Russian Invasion (by France) Q&A

Post by scarfacetarraff »

What is the make-up of your French army for the invasion of France?

Winter effects in CNaW seem much harsher than in CEaW, which makes sense giving the less advanced mechanization, etc. As for winter campaigns, what tends to be your approach once winter arrives?

I basically just go with infantry and artillery. The majority of the infantry are line, but it's nice to have some light to cover the flanks and give you extra mobility. Speaking of mobility, most of my artillery is horse artillery. The more you have, the better. The ability to move and fire in one turn is an enormous help when you're trying to launch an offensive. This goes ditto for playing as the Coalition. I've done much better in pbem games since I stopped buying heavy cavalry as the Russians and purchased horse artillery instead. For either side, I always make sure that every unit is covered by a General (4 hex range). The Generals usually don't fight; their purpose is to raise the effectiveness of the army, not personally lead the charge.

Thanks joerock22. You rock! ;)

Has anyone put out a general strategy guide for the game?

I wonder if anyone is working on a mod? Although, I do have the Mac version so it's unlikely I'll see it on my platform for a while - if ever.

What's required to conquer Russia, all of their cities?

That is correct.

An oddity though. Once I vassalized Russia, I could not enter St. Petersburg. It doesn't have the buffer grids like a vassaled capital - Moscow does. I just can't move into it. The rub is I have a division of Line Infantry trapped in the two grids to the north of St. Petersburg.
