Post by Chris21wen »

Is there a secret to this scenario. I've tried everthng I know to win it but the Shadowspawn can create rifts quicker than I can destroy them.
Must be missing something.

I play on legendary difficulty, and i think i get no way to win it. I have try maybe 8 times, with or without "scale" option. I get a very good army, i take the 2 bonus "+10 regenerate", i take the mana, i destroy 1, 2, 3 chaos gates (i clean every enemy presence on the east of the map), i protect the fortress. But there is always the moment so many enemies come in waves, all elite, that nothing that i could do could make the victory possible.

It is absolute insane. I get 4 scorpion balistas, one artillery firedog, one dragon, Zzlagg, 4 magic archers, many skelletons troops and few other stuff... but the moment when arrives 6 harpies units from 3 sides, 7 or 8 black pegasus units, 3 scorpions and 2 taurus, several heavy knights, many undeads, and that horrible crawfish deamons units (something like 7 or 8 units), i know i am done. The quantity of flying enemies is absolutly insane. It is an elite spam of every kind of menace. Including we have no choice to focus on anything else than harpies, as their special abilities are so break gaming, it looks like their are at least 10 or 12 units of it on the map. I have ever seen 6 of them attack in same time, as i still have killed 4 or 6 of them...

At least i could do something if i get control on allies. They are horrible as they don't stay on walls with heavy infantry, they run here and there stupidely, which create holes in defense.
War is like hunting, except rabbits shot you back

Moira has the "transmuter's pact" training that gives 10 mana on unit death. Recruit a handful of basic troops, preferably the peltasts, and give them the training. Use them as meatshield to soak up fire or just kill them yourself. With that much mana, it is hard to lose with readily available summons. Someone literally won the legendary campaign in ironmaiden mode with this.

I tried iron maiden, hard level and was beaten. Cleared east part but got swamped with horde of enemies. I counted 35 units was around town on the north (image Image). I believe, strategy should be to have 1 squad to destroy portals which should be something like 5 fire archers, 2 Pegasus and 1-2 elite phalanxes.
My mistake was that I tried to clear east and south at the same time which was not a good strategy.
To defend a town you would need Moira to cast and detonate bone Golems almost every turn.
