Madaxeman Inviational FoG Tournament, May 17th London, UK
I'm pleased to announce the Inagural "Madaxeman Inviational" FoG Tournament (In a Pub on one day at a weekend).
Dates - Sunday 17th May
Venue - The Perseverance Shroton Street, Marylebone/Edgware Road
Time - 10am until, well, at least 6ish, maybe closing time.
Format:
* 2 games for everyone, (10:30-1:45pm, 2:30pm-5:45pm and an optional third round starting around 6pm if anyone wants to stay later)
* 900 AP Singles
* Rise of Rome, Immortal Fire & Legions Triumphant lists allowed.
* Only one player will be allowed to field any given list - where two people claim the same list, the choice as to who gets it will be blatantly fixed in a way which is biased against better players.
* All lists MUST include the 600AP(-ish) "starter" list for their army exactly "as is" (ie unit sizes, generals etc all as printed).
...plus one of two ("A" & "B") alternate 300AP(-ish) selections of additional troops, to allow you to field 2 possible 900 AP lists. No date restrictions or stuff on the variants. So, you find out your opponents army, choose whether you want to add on your "A" or "B" 300AP list, and start playing.
* This means you'll be submitting 2 x 300 AP lists to me, not one 900 AP one.
* No modifiers will apply to the initiative rolls, essentially because I reckon LH armies are good enough already.
* Assuming at least one of us is bright enough to work the BHGS scoring system, we'll use that.
* We have space for 5 tables, and we have 5 tables (I hope) so thats 10 people maximum. We already have close to that, so only a few more slots are available.
* Entry is free (unless anyone desparately wants me to organize a prize, or would like me to make some money out of it) but you are obliged to drink at least a pint a game. The really good chippie (The Sea Shell in Lissom Grove) next door is apparently open on Sunday lunchtime as well, which is good news all round.
We may also run a swap-shop Bring and Buy - ie bring any stuff you want to get shot of and someone else might make an offer to buy it off you
Last few places remaining, so please confirm interest to me asap at tim at madaxeman.com !

Vandals first, LRR second, a tie for 3rd between the Illyrians and the Huns (I think). Full results tomorrow.
Insisting on including the starter armies "as is" makes choosing lists more interesting than you'd think!

Thanks, Tim and all, for a great day.hammy wrote:If I lived less than 200 miles away I would have loved to have been there.nikgaukroger wrote:Great day - many thanks to Tim.
Once again 900 points rocked and rolledIts the future
Who won?
P.S. Try 650 on a 5 by 3 table (oh, you are aren't you...) it's the future too.
Think you made your point re the 900 points. I was sceptical, as I rarely finish a game with 800 pts. But having less room to dodge around in does seem to make for a quicker, more decisive game. 650 pts on a smaller table also sounds good.
Incorporating the Starter Armies was another plus - putting a bit of grit into the selection.
It's good to see that Fog is played with a bit of variation. People liked an earlier set of rules so much that they'd play scores of tournament games a year, mostly to a narrow formula. This repetition eventually diminished interest in the game. Hope Fog keeps fresh by trying different things out.

In response to Nik's 'Didn't there used to be somebody here that thought Illyrians were just road kill? Can't remember who, however ...', it was me. I have to say I am impressed, especially given the other results. Really want to read Tim's account of the game as I would have expected LRR to rip them apart.

I have to say there were two "Gimptastic" rounds of combat dice when my Warbands faced the mighty Cats.grahambriggs wrote:Can't believe you guys let the Gimp win.
Fragged or broke the lot of them. I'm not sure this would have worked on Hammy's combat simulator.
Great fun competition run by Tim. The Guiness was good and everyone had a stress free Sunday.
Added bonus that there is a "destination" fish and chip shop next door to the pub. Fantastic!!
Thanks again to Tim for organising a great event.

You're right but check out the competition rules. They are the same army by another name. I'm not sure how it became Early Vandal and not Visigoth.Scrumpy wrote:Looks more like a Visigoth not Vandal army with the Dom Roms onboard.
Sorry to upset you. It really does cover the table at 900 points. I fought both battles on the Steppe and it didn't bother me.

I can't think of a reason not to other than Ray winning and Tim doing rather better than normal.
Anyone?
And that we don't include invitational comps perhaps
