Sub units

Post by pylum2 »

Anybody have any ideas about sub-units,i.e. shot sleeves in tercios, forlorn hope, that sort of thing? Perhaps a bonus in cohesion type tests if in a certain range of a parent unit? Perhaps just use the support rules from Ancients? Any ability for musketeers to flee behind(or through, into, etc) pike units when charged? Just wondering if there were any ideas out there. I am really looking forward to these rules, and I finally got my huge batch of Essex Italian wars stuff, but they probably wont get the brush until next year-I have Greek Hoplites next on the table.

Since each battle group is a group of units in FoG, each base is a sub-unit.

I think you'll be looking at BGs of "pike and shot" in some shape or form.

Ok,I guess I had too much WECW on my mind when I posted this,as we are planning a game of it next month, first time in several years.

Do people still play that? Seemed to me to be one of those rule sets that burned bright but short - however, enjoy whilst awaiting FoG:R :D

I would assume something like the mixed group rules in FOG would be used - with a different element ordering and rules so the Shot/Pike/Shot sandwich is allowed etc.

Not only allowed but enforced. We won't be allowing gamey unhistorical formations. This is not to say that detaching shot will not be an option, but you won't be allowed to deploy your BGs in any ad-hoc formation you like.

As far as possible, we want a FoG:R battlefield to reflect historical practice and to look just like the contemporary depictions.
