Scoring question.

If someone manages to pull off an automatic victory do they get the max points possible? In other words, if you destroyed both rail bridges on turn #1 would you get the same points as you would if you held numerous victory hexes, eliminated several of the enemy units and destroyed both rail bridges on turn #15?

Yes and no.

I would guess that there would be a way for a player to collaborate with their opponents to lose most of their VP and then feed lots of weak units to the other player.

But practically, I've tried to set it up so that there's always value in taking the target points.

There's a VP bank behind the scenes for the primary targets. That decreases in value each turn, so you'll get more points for taking the target locations earlier.
