Battle of Hastings Scenarios

Post by Hoplite1963 »

Really looking forward to the release of this game, and pleased to see that Hastings will be one of the scenarios that will ship with the initial release.

When the map is being made for this I wonder if it would be possible to extend it northwards to include the rather higher Caldback Hill and the forested area behind it as well as “Battle Hill” where most accounts of the battle suggest that the Saxon Army was drawn up.

In “Battle of Hastings 1066 - The Uncomfortable Truth “ (ISBN-13 : 978-1848848276) published in 2012 (by Pen & Sword Books) John Grehan and Martin Mace have gone into some considerable depth to make the case that the more northerly Caldback Hill was the location of the Saxon deployment for a whole range of reasons, and have also provided detailed terrain maps which look as if they could be used as the basis as for an expanded map of the battlefield.

You could either have two sperate scenarios or by providing an expanded map including Caldback Hill to start with make it easier for scenario designers to add on at a later date.

How about it ?

If I were you, I'd wait for the release. If it is not the location you prefer and you can't make a scenario by yourself, make a detailed suggestion in the future Scenario sub-forum for an alternative map a scenario maker may want to make.

As for Hastings and its real location, the only one I know is Hercule Poirot's friend in A. Christie's novels :-)
