Ottomans and their enemies - new team event
So, I would like to start our new team event in November. As with the rather successful 30YW event, we will play four rounds again, just one game per round with a month to finish the game. Enough play to keep it interesting but without making excessive demands on players.
We will have two teams, captained by our friendly Kiwi Rivals, Awesum4 and Kiwiwarlord.
One team will take the Ottomans throughout the event, starting with the Mohacs scenario (get practicing!).
Based on results, the 'Ottoman Threat Level' will increase or fall and that will determine the opposition in the following round. Where the threat level gets too high, the Ottoman team can select one of the armies available and vice versa. So a pretty simple mechanism but it gives a bit of added interest.
The second team then will have a range of armies to fight with depending on results.
Who would like to play?

Re: Ottomans and their enemies - new team event
I would love to play but I'm moving (finally ,after 2 years of searching!) in to my new French house on 4th November and I suspect I will be very busy for the foreseeable future
If you are short of players and you can live with possible slow turn around then put me down , either side will do me.
cheers,
Dave.

I'll sharpen my Kilij and mount a horse in a respectable way when the sultan calls!

Re: Ottomans and their enemies - new team event
Thanks to everyone so far for entering. I should add that the spirit of our event is to have fun, discover the game and different armies. Obviously, because it is a wargame, one wants to win but hopefully the winning and losing can happen in a friendly way, with chat and discussion along the way and good after-game reports (see previous posts in our former P&S and SJ events from Gdod, who is the master of this). For inexperienced players in particular, or any of us who play Snuggles, it is nice to have a debriefing afterwards so they can learn (assuming they have not won the game!)
I will keep things open for a week or so. In the meantime feel free to practice Mohacs, against the AI or another player (download from within the game, I think it is by Odenathus). I will post the likely programme asap.

Re: Ottomans and their enemies - new team event
Thank you to Alan, Andre and Brian for taking the trouble to organise another friendly P&S event - I too would like to participate.
My preference would be to play as the Nottomans rather that the Ottomans, if only because the Sultan had a decidedly robust approach to dealing with losing generals! However, I am happy to be assigned to either team.

Can another newbie join in?
Re: Ottomans and their enemies - new team event
I'm not that new. I used to play a lot couple of years before and then I completely forgot about P&S for a loooong time. So now I'm basically back to be a beginner in terms of skills. Hopefully, I still remember some tricks though. I'm going to need then against gribol and SnuggleBunnies.

Ok!
So good luck

Re: Ottomans and their enemies - new team event
That would be great!
I try to make match-ups reasonable so that the Star Players are not playing against the newer ones, though sometimes this can happen - or a 'newbie' turns out to be an excellent player, which happens. But having said that it can be very 'educational' to play against Snuggles or Awesum4 or Kiwiwarlord for example. Each of them is very good and also friendly plus they each have different styles, which makes it interesting. My play is erratic, sometimes good, sometimes hopeless but I have managed to beat all three of them (and lost many more times!).

If I knew that newbies get such a warm welcome I would volunteer to participate in the tournament a long time ago.ahuyton wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 9:43 amThat would be great!

The description of your playing experience is eerily similar to mine. Sometimes good, and sometimes embarrassingly bad. I can say with confidence that regardless of my performance the RNG gods hate me with a passion.

I've been playing some practice with/against the Ottomans, and have completed one. Could be of interest for those entering this event:
