Civil Defense Technology Tree

Post by dcal_31 »

Has there been any thought of adding a civil defense technology tree?

Currently, all city locations and sizes are known to all parties at the start of the game. It is possible to try to counter attacks with radar and SAM systems, but no way to mitigate damage if/when an attack gets through. A civil defense tree would offer an alternate/complimentary strategy that follows historical developments.

Just spitballing, but I see something similar to structures that can be built within a certain radius of a city that a set number of people would be safe if that city is attacked. Upgraded techs allow the structure to be hold more people and be placed further from the city. These structures would would follow the same rules of detection as other constructions. Destroying the structure would not kill those people directly, but they would again be vulnerable if the city is attacked.

Level 1 - Personal Fallout Shelters - Can each shelter up to 10,000 population in the event of a nuclear attack.

Level 2 - Emergency Operations Bunkers - Can each shelter up to 100,000 population in the event of a nuclear attack.

Level 3 - Strategic Industry Relocation - Can each shelter up to 1,000,000 population in the event of a nuclear attack.

I was just watching Stealth do a run with some of your mods this evening, which made me decide to fire the game back up tonight. Log in here to report a bug and see my post from two months ago finally has a reply. And it just so happens to be by everyone's favorite modder who likes my idea? Not a bad night.

Looking at the patch notes, it appears that cities are now modifiable. Do you think something like this would be possible to mod in?
