Can't stand the graphics
I have the Field Marshal edition and was so excited to play a modernized version of PC1 but I can't get my head around the graphics at all. I am unable to see units at a glance or get a sense of the battlefield because everything blends together. I'm missing entire groups of units and clicking on enemies thinking they are my units. The terrain and units are not contrasted enough and the units are simply indistinguishable from each other unless zoomed in which is very tedious. The game sits on my computer getting dusty until someone comes up with new units or counters. Very disappointed - going back to Strategic Command.....
Re: Can't stand the graphics
I'm in the same boat. The only way I can even see my own planes when they are above other units/city terrains, is when I put ridiculous skins on them. Bright blue or red.
I'm constantly missing units, or mistaking them for something else. towed AA and AT looks the same, different models of tanks are often impossible to visually distinguish from one another.
"Oh, there was a unit there?" happens all the time - not because they were out of sight, but because they just blend together with the terrain.
I'm constantly straining my vision to get an overview of what's going on.
I own field marshal too but haven't finished 1939 yet. I like the game a lot but visually it's very off-putting.

Re: Can't stand the graphics
I still didn't give up completely, but I completely understand. It's so hard to focus on gameplay when you are constantly trying to see what's on the map. I think if they enabled map rotation and unit rotation independently of the map - it might help a bit.
Re: Can't stand the graphics
Yes, I'm waiting for a better "strategic map" as normal way of playing.
I had use the "normal" map only if the "strat map" was bugging (but they have started to correct it).
Then I'm fed up and has stopped playing.

Re: Can't stand the graphics
Have you tried going into Options and increase unit size and change camo?

Hit tab to switch to air filter mode for easier aircraft management.Woak wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 7:47 am I'm in the same boat. The only way I can even see my own planes when they are above other units/city terrains, is when I put ridiculous skins on them. Bright blue or red.

As others have suggested, tweaking unit scale in the game options is also a good idea. I play on Unit size 65+, and it looks better and it's much easier to see.

I suppose these graphics complaint threads are another example of , " Seeing is believing " , and , " A picture is worth a thousand words " , aren't necessarily true.
That is , two people can look at the same thing and see two different things , and neither person is bonkers or full of crap.
I have never had a problem with the graphics --- and that is not an insinuation that I'm a genius , or that I have keen eye sight.
My eye sight , actually , is lousy.
And if I have no trouble spotting a Whermact gas mask canister in an over - grown field , or spotting an Italian mess tin in a darkened room , I really doubt that is due to any brilliance.
I suspect it is because , in my peculiar case , I have been looking at Axis equipment , on a near - daily basis , since I was about 4 years old.
I had no idea there was such a thing as tweaking unit size in options.

Re: Can't stand the graphics
In the first weeks of the game's release, I complained about the size of the unit strength indicator. I too did not realize all this was customizable in the settings until someone posted it. Problem solved!KesaAnna wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 11:22 pm I suppose these graphics complaint threads are another example of , " Seeing is believing " , and , " A picture is worth a thousand words " , aren't necessarily true.

Re: Can't stand the graphics
The great shame is they put so much incredible work into the various customization and options menus, but so many negative reviews complain the game not being a certain way when all they had to do was dig into the settings and they'd find exactly what they are complaining the game needs.

Yes, at the time I did rather feel like an ass.Kerensky wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2020 10:47 pmThe great shame is they put so much incredible work into the various customization and options menus, but so many negative reviews complain the game not being a certain way when all they had to do was dig into the settings and they'd find exactly what they are complaining the game needs.![]()

Re: Can't stand the graphics
I knew all the settings - it doesn't fix it. Increasing size of units just makes it more cluttered. Rotation of units and map would help though.
Re: Can't stand the graphics
same problem for me..
I m obliged to make my units colored : blue for planes, red for anti-tanks etc... why not some signs or symbols the player could add to the units ? like a white cross or a blue star etc ?? it could help me to recognize my heroes too.

Re: Can't stand the graphics
I agree, and maybe add an option to remove the cluttered models and just leave the symbols (unit symbol in right color with the strength number) running on an isometric map:D Back to C64 graphics to make it playable again
