Should units evade when there is something directly behind them?

Field of Glory II is a turn-based tactical game set during the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC.

Should units evade when there is something directly behind them?

This will always be worse than fighting, because they will get caught automatically and rear-attacked. Seems unrealistic and unfair to the AI (a human player will usually avoid it).

It is intentional. Troops reacting to a charge don't make a careful analysis of the situation around them before reacting.
