Best Meshwesh

Post by expendablecinc »

Who makes the best Meshwesh? Who makes Meshwesh at all?

I need some invincible troops and am now looking at a Libyan Egyptian Ally for my Sargonids.

I believe Old Glory 15mm have some in their range and if you need lots of them their current discounts may make a very attractive choice.

2 BGs of 6

Post by expendablecinc »

Two battle groups of six protected undrilled superior impact foot swordsmen alongside the assyrian guard and armoured light spearmen should be ok.

I suspect that a couple of small groups of impact foot shoudl be less of a liability that the gallic-like attrocities reported elsewhere.

I had another read through and the middle assyrians look like a good painters army as well - with both cav, light chariots and heavy chariots all available at the same point in time.

The old glory meshwesh look like the bronze age movie vikings with 2 horned helmets.
The chariot miniatures guys havea cloak and and two feathers poking out at odd angles.
Black hat make meshwesh that just have bronze helments and some sort of thick bands of cloth or metal around thier torsos. They are all very different in sculting style and quality but the main problem is they are also seem to be based on entirely different research basis.

Any Ideas what they woudl really look like?

If you haven't already picked a scale then I recommend taking a look at the Caesar Miniatures Libyan set. They are a really nice set of figures (I really like the Sea Peoples too). I am gradually putting a set of armies for a DBA campaign which will combine into some sort of Egyptian and Syrian armies for FoG at some time in the future (Libyans, Sea Peoples and Nubians finished- bar the chariots which have been primed for over a year but remain unfinished). I have the Egyptian foot pack and will pick up Hittites, Mitanni and others as I see them at shows (plus I am bound to get Myceneans and Trojans at some point.

That said -I wasn't a great fan of the Chariots. The horses could really do with moulded on bases and the soft plastic can be a bit distorted on some parts making assembly a bit tricky. Still loads of porters and such for the camp as a bonus.
