Panzer Comics Issue #7

Post by Kerensky »

Another comic to enjoy just before the next DLC hits.

Attacking entrenched enemies is like advancing into a well prepared position of set up machine guns and sand bag protections. Gotta blast it all away with artillery before sending in the troops!

I was surprised to see many people still say artillery isn't very good. Or people not using artillery to support their Spanish Nationalist infantry and wondering why the Spanish seem timid or ineffective against Republican enemies. While true it doesn't do direct damage on it's own, nothing is better at tearing up entrenchment and suppressing a fortified enemy position than artillery.

I guess it's not immediately obvious because to find out how much bonuses entrenchment provide isn't displayed in the UI without looking at the expanded combat log. But suffice to say units get massive bonuses with high entrenchment ratings, and knocking that number down is really important to shifting combat odds in your favor.

Extra points for no enemy return fire on artillery strikes of course.

You need to show the one where the defender has ambush hero, and nukes your rocket truck for 8 damage leaving the little digital rocket truck men running around on fire screaming OMG what just happened.....

That would definitely be it's own comic. "Getting the most out of your Ambush type hero"

I wonder if that isn't such a terrible idea though. Rudel with Ambush, he would be really hard to deal with even inside his famous Stuka... Might be more interesting than flat +9 +9 stats?

Good comic !

Because --

-- It is a good VISUAL representation of the concept .

-- I suspect that , even if you read the game manual , read this forum , and read up on and note individual unit traits , this concept is not necessarily so obvious when presented in text format.

Fortunately for me , I noticed early on -- VISUALLY -- that if I hit an entrenched position with three full - strength infantry units , but nothing else , all three of my infantry units might lose three or four points of strength , and may still not take the position !

But , if I can hit an entrenched position with a strat bomber , and a 75mm arty , and a 100mm arty , ( and with all three of these attacks , the unit in the entrenched position maybe didn't lose a single strength point ) most likely I will take the entrenched position with a single unit of infantry , and that single unit of infantry is likely to lose only one or two strength points , or none at all ! :D

Anyway , like I said , I suspect that SEEING the concept is a lot more informative and revelatory than READING about the concept.

--

By the way , it's interesting that ROCKET ARTILLERY is used to illustrate the concept of the power of suppression fire.

IF they have sufficient ammo , and IF they are in range , rocket artillery is the beast !! :D

Given how plain murderous rocket artillery is , I would think the same unspoken rule would apply to rocket artillery troops as applies to spies , snipers , and military police ;

" Sorry , we don't take your kind prisoner. You folks are an automatic kill - on - sight. " :)

Given how important entrenchment is. It might be a nice future update that better visualizes this.

Infantry on the map with high entrenchment values have sandbangs in front of their soldiers. When artillery damage units, it shows Kills/Suppression/Entrenchment damage all in the damage floating text.
