Kradschützen

Post by adiekmann »

Why are Kradschützen not available for purchase until 1940 when historically almost all German mechanized forces had a battalion of them already at the start of the war? The only reason I can come up with is some sort of game balancing reason. But you wouldn't delay the availability of the Tiger tank because it gives the player an unfair advantage over the opponent, so why here (if so)?

Furthermore, in PC1 Kradschützen was classified under infantry. This made sense because they were in most early war (1939-1941) in Panzer Divisions organized as part of a schützen (rifle) brigade along with a regular motorized schützen regiment. But they clearly were used in a recon capacity as well, so therein lies the pickle. In PC1 they had 3 spotting but lacked the phased movement of a proper recon unit. But they could later be upgraded to any of the "normal" infantry units. But in PC2 you gain the phased movement because they are classified as recon, but now you can not longer upgrade them to infantry later on.

I find that experience slowest gained on infantry units (with maybe the exception of Pioniere), especially when compared to PC1 among the main unit types. I think the best solution would have been to either reclassify them as infantry with phased movement, or make it so you can upgrade recon units to infantry as well.

Thoughts?

During the Beta Calvary cost 70, and became the main infantry unit. So they upped the specs slightly and tripled the cost.
The second overpowered infantry was the Krads with their higher init. Making them recon lowered their strength to 10 and no longer the Wehr replacement.

They also updated the affects of entrenchment which made Pioneers more important.

On a side note in PzC1 nikivdd had an equipment mod that had Krad36, Krad39, and Krad43 options.
So future mods may give you what you want.
There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.
