Antigonids

Post by Gray Fox »

I tried Antigonids because in several games they just collapsed and I wanted to see if I could keep them going. Well, that sort of happened. I won the campaign in 100 turns...again.

P.S. I didn't build any monuments, gambling rings, pleasure houses or black markets and I deconstructed any in the regions I conquered. So none of these buildings that give decadence.

Also, total combined income from total commerce and tax was over 9k, but trade alone was only about 1k. So trade income was less than 11% of total income.

Right from the start, I offered peace to Seleucids (who accepted) and Aegyptus (who did not). I continued to make offerings to Aegyptus until they did accept. However, in that time Judea attacked and I was able to recover my regions and get peace before Paphlagonia, Bithynia and Lysimakos declared war. So I conquered Paph. and then Bith., then gained peace with Lys. This gave me access to the provincial unit, Galatian Infantry which for some reason I forgot to use.

I then made Rhodus a Client State and conquered the province of Creta Rhodus. Sparta took Argolide and I was forced into yet another war. Sparta was quickly conquered. I now decided to go after Macedonia, whose empire was in debt and war weary. I created two armies for the short frontage of rough terrain and added a third force for the siege of Atticus. I methodically marched through Macedonia as her army smashed itself to bits against my eastern army, Gray Fox I. I assaulted Atticus with the new army and was repulsed. The only battle I initiated and lost in the whole game. However, I just starved them out since I had sea control. I should have used Gatalians for the assault.

Finally, Macedonia was conquered. I added Pontus and Judea as CS. The Seleucids were losing a war with Maurya and their western regions were defecting to my empire. I made a diplomatic trade with Pontus for a region that was an objective of mine. It was raided and I took it back without trouble. I stationed a force there to garrison it. At this point, I just coasted out to the Victory.

So in less than 100 turns, I acquired 44 regions. Through diplomacy, I only fought on one front at a time. I finished as a Glorious Tier III in my second Golden Age. Far from being the house of cards that the AI Antigonids seemed, Antigonids is a very strong faction to play.
