Heavy foot base ?
I am looking at my rule book (sorry newbie) and see that heavy foot has 4 models per base but is only 15/20mm deep while the other infantry is 20/30mm deep - is that right ?
If so can you tell me why ?
... and - I have no models yet but can you actually squeeze 4 models on the base ok ?

You will wonder, but in a old system, I think it was called WRG 6th edition of a Mr Phil Baker, the dimensions of bases were the same!TERRYFROMSPOKANE wrote:Well, one might opine heavy foot are packed in a denser formation and therefore, take up less depth. There is also the slightpossibility the basing system was developed to accomodate armies already based for DBA/DBM rules.

IIRC, the original WRG basing scheme was indeed meant to reflect the fact that heavy infantry would have been deployed in denser formations than other troops. However, the FoG rules do allow for deeper bases or fewer figures per base than the stated norms (p. 127). So as long as the base widths are correct, you should be fine.

Maybe you been thinking about 7th Ed.? 6th is actually based even tighter, with just 7.5 mm for a close based infantry miniature (so only 30 mm for four of them).marioslaz wrote:You will wonder, but in a old system, I think it was called WRG 6th edition of a Mr Phil Baker, the dimensions of bases were the same!

There was a time, many many moons ago, that 4 15mm figures would easily fit onto a 40 x 15mm base.
Those time are past, but never let it be said that a wargamer isn't a stodgy old bugger who will not accept changes to basing.
That said, the rules do allow for deeper basing if you prefer.

I was going to post this morning on this very topic. I have been painting my 25mm English HYW figures for my upcoming battle with Charles in Northern France. I have based my first longbow unit (medium foot) without difficulty. But looking at the heavy infantry figures (Old Glory) and the smaller heavy foot base...I'm concerned that the 4 figures will not be ABLE to fit on the 60x20mm bases. I may HAVE to use the 60x30mm bases. I'm hoping that I will not also be forced to drop the figures per base down to 3.
It's all looking a little...crowded.
I'll post some pics soon.
