How are we going team? TomoeGozen continues to pummel my poor swedes in submission despite some valiant charges.

Swedes are very very few in number in our battle....we have commenced mopping-up operations. Germany will be free of the Protestant scourge in the very near future.

Alas, my Swedish army has been battered to a pulp by Awesum4. No doubt Andre will report on his fine victory but in the meantime I can reveal the following.

I was a bit slow in gathering my troops together and advancing. Foolishly, I left a couple of salvo foot units in range of the hidden Catholic artillery and they took a fair amount of hits (one of the oddities of the scenario is that while neither side can see each other the artillery merrily fires away accurately into the fog).

When my Salvo foot finally got to the line of Catholic veteran infantry I managed to charge in but had suffered several disrupts. I think that I failed to inflict a single disrupt on him, so the infantry battle soon came to a sorry end. The Catholic cavalry prevailed on my right although I made good progress on the left, but it was not enough. Before long veteran enemy infantry were in my rear, so to speak, and the end came soon enough.

An enjoyable game, as always with Awesum4, direct and brutal.

saxonGermany has been made safe from the brutal Swedish invader and their traitorous allies near the lovely Saxon town of Lutzen.

The Swedes were slow to advance through the early morning fog which allowed us to set up an especially effective reception line of artillery and heavy foot to the left of a strongly held Windmill Hill. The Salvo foot had been battered from shooting on the way in and failed to disrupt my line. Reserve units soon attacked his flanks and then rear. The two units that broke through were soon discomforted by Pappenheim's reserve foot units.

The Swedes attacking our left were also slow to advance and were slowed further by the heroic actions of our hussars, who unfortunately paid dearly for their heroics. By the time they were advancing through the gaps between our fortifications Pappenheim had arrived with his cavalry and we were able to put 2 or 3 units into each of his.

On the right we suffered somewhat holding the line between the castle and Windmill Hill, but with judicious local attacks and careful withdrawls our troops held until reserve units from the victorious centre swung in to turn the tide.

The Swedes lost 56% to our 19%, so we claim a major victory for the Emperor and the Catholic cause.

Gribol and I are still in early stages. Some of the cavalry has made contact, and the main infantry lines have begun to exchange musket fire, but nothing serious yet.

Oh woe is the protestant cause at the moment but cheer up lads. My battle stands at 47% losses to 26% inflicted, though any further success will be miraculous (latest: 54-28%). My left and right has collapsed, the center is precarious. Alas, it may be time to....retire, regroup, reequip and reengage.

I am glad to announce that the Swedish invaders have been thrown back in disarray near the town of Lutzen. Many good Catholic lives were lost to ensure the freedom of Europe from their tyranny unfortunately.

A rather close and nail biting affair this one , with the Imperial forces just about holding on to win 65-34.

gribol opted to ignore the town of Lutzen entirely, but the combination of infantry deployed on the Windmill Hill with ZoC locks from Mounted Arquebusiers on the Salvo Foot proved too much for the Swedes to overcome. Pappenheim's cavalry played a part in the battle, but his foot arrived too late to participate.

The Battle of La grippe espagnole

The Spanish under Gentlemanranker have been soundly beaten near the little Spanish village of Oh Dios mío. Being caught unawares whilst napping during their traditional siesta, any meaningful disposition or movement was hampered by their overindulgence of the midday tapas. Sargento Burro and several piqueros of the Tercio Morados Viejos said in their debriefing by the French Inquisition that, "We awoke to the smell of garlic and onion, Ouchy!, and the sound of French horns. Aaaargh, eso dueles, It was terrifying to see those magnificent Frenchmen in meticulous ranks,mierda que es dolorosa! , bear down upon us as we struggled to wake No puedes hablar en serio, ¿una doncella de hierro?". With over 4500 captured or deserted and over 5000 dead the Spanish will soon surely sue for peace.

Details of the battle, as quoted in the popular French newspaper La presse mensongère stated that:-

The French battle plan worked perfectly as the two flanks remained locked in an even cavalry contest lasting the entire encounter. Meanwhile, the Spanish centre inextricably retired [clearly to ensure a second helping of tapas before contact]. The French centre advanced to within range and the infantry dominated centre finally stood eyeball to eyeball and fired round upon round on each other. It was fortunate for the French that the Tercio's reluctance to advance to contact quickly gave the French an advantage as more than one veteran tercio turned an fled amid the hailstorm of French cannon fire and musketry. Général Couché entre ses dents was quoted as saying, "The battle ended without a single French rout, though several units left abruptly after hearing there was free drinks all around for the first 500 at the Bar du camp.

The picture shows the French left being held as the French centre punches through the Spanish line. "Montjoie Saint Denis!"
