Woohoo! I was becoming concerned that the list was blase about the shipping dates. This used to be good for a three page thread every time a book was due to come out. Ahhh, for the good old days.BlackPrince wrote:amazon have sent me an email saying that they can not send me a copy of wolves of the sea until mid March -Crap -so much for pre ordering.
Would anyone with a copy like to list the four allies that the Romano Brits can have?

Yep, here we go again...
Every time a FoG release date approaches, the automated Amazon supplier notification system sends out messages like the one cited above, and every time the supplement has in fact shipped within a day or two of the announced release date. I have no doubt that the same thing will happen again this time.
Cheers,
Scott

Re: Romano British or Post Roman Brits
Not being anything close to being an expert in the field, I'm thinking that the Foederate Roman would be a good place to start. For example I based my assumptions on the Vikings on what had been written on the Scots Isles and Highlands. It seems (yet to be proven) that if someone built a Scots Isles (particularly without Highlanders) army then you would basically have a Viking army.Phil_Bradley wrote:Hi I am returning to Ancients after leaving DBM in frustration several years ago.
I have only had one and a bit games of FOG but do like how it looks and plays.
I had sold off most of my figs. I would like to do a new army of Romano Brits in 15mm.
It appears the list will not be out till Feb next year, as I am starting to purchase and build the army now can any one give me suggestions to what I should start painting.
Thanks Phil
Additionally, if your Brits end up as "Offensive/Defensive spearmen" and you paint up "Impact foot" there isn't much of a problem as the bulk of your army is going to be the same anyway. You might have to have some individual bases that make different units stand out, but that's not a big deal once the bulk of the army has been painted.
Just some thoughts.

Finally my copy of Wolves of the Sea has arrived. So I have two questions.
1. which is best to use cav armoured average drilled light spear or cav armed superior undrilled light spear.
2. I just want confirm before I start basing up infantry if I use drilled infantry the BGs can be both medium and heavy not only one type as the undrilled infantry.

It matters not Keith, both will die to the hordes of Vikings, but I think that Cavalry are the ONE troop type (besides Skirmishers) who don't benefit enough from being drilled to matter. So I'd base your choice on what kind of OTHER troops you want.BlackPrince wrote:Finally my copy of Wolves of the Sea has arrived. So I have two questions.

I have to disagree with that (DaiSho) on cavalry, especially non-shock cavalry who can evade as the ability to expand and move is very very useful IMO.

But don't you normally just deploy the way you're going to use the troop - for the most part? Sure, that's a neat trick to pull, but is it one that would totally alter the army you choose JUST so you get drilled cavalry?nikgaukroger wrote:I have to disagree with that (DaiSho) on cavalry, especially non-shock cavalry who can evade as the ability to expand and move is very very useful IMO.
Pikemen, sure; Impact foot, sure - but not cavalry!

I find that cavalry are not the sort of troops that "run on rails" and you generally want to manoeuvre than quite a bit which can often involve turning, wheeling, etc. and so the expand and move and general pass a CMT on 7+ is very useful. Given a choice I'd usually go for drilled.DaiSho wrote:But don't you normally just deploy the way you're going to use the troop - for the most part?nikgaukroger wrote:I have to disagree with that (DaiSho) on cavalry, especially non-shock cavalry who can evade as the ability to expand and move is very very useful IMO.
However, you do need to think about how you are going to use the whole army and what troops are going to do and where you're going to win the battle and how - easier said than done, of course

As I am lloking at the list (and actually played it this past weekend)- the drilled cav option are worth it- especiallly if you are playing in an open tournament and can meet knights- your cav will get crushed if they can't get out of the way, either by maneuvering or skirmishing.
