Reminder -- Challenge Methods Next Caracole

Post by flatsix518 »

All,

Here are the four options being discussed:

1) Continue current method. Challenger constructs entire challenge, including both armies -- limited to historic enemies.

2) Pre-Challenge for both armies to play. Challenger announces army pair (historic only) on the forum and opponent chooses which army to play. Opponent constructs the challenge accordingly.

3) Pre-Challenge for one army to play - historic enemies only. Challenger announces the army he wishes to run and opponent chooses which army to play from historic enemy armies only. Opponent constructs the challenge accordingly.

4) Pre-Challenge for one army to play - open to any enemies. Challenger announces the army he wishes to run and opponent chooses which army to play with from any opponents available with the filter turn off. Only disallowed armies are same nationality (no civil wars). Opponent constructs the challenge accordingly.

Eight players have expressed their opinion -- Option #2 is proving to be the most popular.

Sorry for the delay. I've been busy these days.

Congratulations to the winners and to Flatsix. Thanks for organizing this tournament.

I like option 2, and maybe we could try to play with medium size armies and a very wide battlefield.

Congratulation to Flatsix for organizing this Tournament. Have been a great experience.

As said Dortmund, i prefer too the option 2, and what is more important for me, set maps to "very wide" battefields.

Congratulations for the winner!

See you!

All,

I really appreciate the compliments for running the tournament. Thanks to everyone who participated. I think everyone played in a good spirit of competition and friendliness.

Players who are still wrapping up games continue to post results and I'll update the final standings as appropriate.

Right now I'm planning on doing Caracole 2. Expect registration to start in late January with an early February start for battles. That should give players in fogman's Lords tournament a chance to have those games over or in-hand before cranking up a new Caracole.

There has been enough input to make decisions regarding Caracole 2's format. Here is a high-level overview:

1. Will play in LoEG-style round-robin pods instead of matched rounds. All players will play two games against each other player in the pod. Expect to have six to eight opponents in your pod (12 to 14 games to be played). There will be two rounds of pods (will explain in Caracole 2 announcement.)

2. Will use a pre-challenge of historical pairs. Challenger proposes pairs, opponent chooses which side to play and composes the actual challenge on the MP server.

3. Battlefield width will be increased to "very wide" (32 squares). Armies will continue to be medium size.

4. Note: Draws will not be allowed. (Draws were unofficially allowed in Caracole 1, won't be allowed in Caracole 2.)

I'm going to ask to retire this thread from the stickies section. In two or three weeks I'll start a new thread for Caracole 2.

Best regards,

John

Another two games finished. I got two victories against Deadtorius.

In his challenge one my Scots Covenanter beated his English Royalists by creating a side to side wall of pike and shot. I had so many units that I could soak up losses and replace them with reserves while grindind down the enemies and turning their flanks. At the same time I pushed and beated his cavalry wings as he had no room to use them. Vey wide maps are an absolute must as I feel that in this game his army had no chance against mine.

In my challenge my Italian Wars Spanish barely defeated Deadtorius French. A hard fought, on the verge battle where he swept my infantry keils and tercios and I did the same with his cavalry and skirmishers. A broken enemy keil finally gave me the victory. Thank you to Deadtorius for two great games.

Regards,
Javier.

All,

I realized from an offline PM that I mis-scored a 2 game match between moncholee and tullius.

I've corrected the results.

Need one more volunteer

Post by flatsix518 »

All,

Moncholee missed all of round one and his trying to make up his missed games.

I need one more volunteer to play him two games (challenge / counter-challenge). This could be an opponent who has been following the Caracole, but did not play. It could be a player who participated in the Caracole, but has not played against Moncholee. In this case, the opponent would be playing "for fun" -- only Moncholee will be playing for points.

Let me know.
