R3 Results
Triarius Ottomans 50% vs Hrothgar Polish 67%
and
Triarius Scots 4% vs Hrothgar New Model Army 50%
The first game was incredibly close and probably hinged on ione lucky and crucial rally for a single Janissary unit.
The second reflected the strong Parliamentary cavalry wing being caught in hedgerows, shot up, withdrawn and unable to affect the other, open, Scots flank before the outnumbered infantry collapsed.
Thanks to Hrothgar for two great games
and
seasons felicitations to one and all.

Important Challenge Discussion on Post-Mortem Thread!!
All,
I think we're moving to a consensus on four possible options to address challenge and army competitiveness on the Post-Mortem thread. If you have a viewpoint, or just want to vote your support for a particular option, please go there and post it.
viewtopic.php?f=299&t=54947&p=513769#p513769
Here are the current proposals:
1) Continue current method. Challenger constructs entire challenge, including both armies -- limited to historic enemies.
2) Pre-Challenge for both armies to play. Challenger announces army pair (historic only) on the forum and opponent chooses which army to play. Opponent constructs the challenge accordingly.
3) Pre-Challenge for one army to play - historic enemies only. Challenger announces the army he wishes to run and opponent chooses which army to play from historic enemy armies only. Opponent constructs the challenge accordingly.
4) Pre-Challenge for one army to play - open to any enemies. Challenger announces the army he wishes to run and opponent chooses which army to play with from any opponents available with the filter turn off. Only disallowed armies are same nationality (no civil wars). Opponent constructs the challenge accordingly.
Please express your opinion or preferred option. This is the most controversial of several topics and I'd like to resolve it in the direction of majority opinion.

Triarius Scots Covenanters (6%) vs Graymouser New Model Army (51%)
and
Triarius German Protestant (5%) vs Graymouser German Catholic (44%)
Thnaks very much to GM for two good games especially as the terrain in the ECW game was a dream for the Scots.

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole Tournament Thread
I definitely dislike #4. I prefer the match-ups have some historical restrictions. Plus, with #4 it would seem to be suicidal to pick an army from the Italian Wars, because a competitive opponent will choose a later army with better firepower, which ought to give a significant edge.

I prefer option 1 but with a limit on number of times you can challenge with a particular pairing in any given tourney. If not that option 2.

Round 4 results: 3-1
rbodleyscott (Polish 1633-1648) lost vs pantherboy (French 1643-1648) (67% vs 46%)
rbodleyscott (Weimarian 1635-1643) won vs pantherboy (Spanish 1635-1648) (14% vs 57%)
Aryaman (Polish 1633-1648) lost vs pantherboy (French 1643-1648) (54% vs 20%)
Aryaman (Swedish 1630-1634) lost vs pantherboy (Imperials 1619-1632) (60% vs 52%)
If RBS wins both of his games then I'd suggest only one more match with one player (probably RBS due to his familiarity with the game) posting a pairing and the other player choosing a side. That should end things fairly one way or the other.

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole Tournament Thread
Both games with tullius have finally finished. I managed two wins.
In one game my Ottomans swarmed his Imperial army flanks at will as there was no terrain to hinder them. I have read in these forums that Ottomans have fame of being an underdog but I found them to be very mobile and have great firepower.
In the other game we played an Italian Wars battle and he suffered from the lack of practise with armies of that period. My Spanish beat his French on the wings and then my mounted turned on the rear of his infantry.
Thank you tullius for two interesting games.
Javier.
