Re: 30 Years War team event
I have always been of the opinion that the shooty Protestant lists are superior to the keily Catholic lists. Melee power doesn't help that much when you don't have as many units on the field.

Re: 30 Years War team event
the tercios are really good if you can get into hand to hand combat...an early tercio will handle 3 pike and shot....but getting into combat without disrupting is very difficult, especially against an experienced player with a gentle hill near his base line for him to emplace his batteries

Re: 30 Years War team event
I am happy to announce a great (but costly) victory for the Catholic forces against the Bohemian rebels at White Mountain!
In a shocking turn up for the books Tomoegozen manages to squeek a 65-40 win against ahuyton. The incredible resilience of a number of veteran early tercios saved the day. Thanks to ahuyton for an exiting and very tense game.
Dave.

In other news: Commiserations Alan...White Mountain is a hard nut to crack. However, we may have lost the battle but can still win the war!

Re: 30 Years War team event
Dave very wisely gathered his troops together and advanced in a solid line of keils, well supported by his best cavalry. In the end, I managed to defeat two of the horrifying infantry blocks and ganged up on the cavalry but it was not enough. Well played!TomoeGozen wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 10:19 pm I am happy to announce a great (but costly) victory for the Catholic forces against the Bohemian rebels at White Mountain!

And regrettably SB is taking this seriously as his keils look set to batter my poor line of infantry.GDod wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 10:34 pmsnigger sniggerawesum4 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 5:01 am the tercios are really good if you can get into hand to hand combat...an early tercio will handle 3 pike and shot....but getting into combat without disrupting is very difficult, especially against an experienced player with a gentle hill near his base line for him to emplace his batteries

Ah...and also regrettably you don't have a holy hand-grenade in your arsenal either (if you know what I mean

Re: 30 Years War team event
I have returned from a two week sabbatical to find the Hand of God has blessed his Protestant League with many Victories and new, very skilful, Generals.
We are Blessed indeed.

Welcome back, Brian, mixed results really but it is nice to have interest in the game.KiwiWarlord wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 9:33 am I have returned from a two week sabbatical to find the Hand of God has blessed his Protestant League with many Victories and new, very skilful, Generals.

Once more the Protestant cause is safe and thriving. Spain and the Unholy League have been stopped, and Magdeburg has been avenged....hussar! Congratulations team. Until the next time ...

30 Years War team event, Ebenezer Vs Fybyyn
Ebenezer VS Fybyyn (fybyyn wins)
After a hard advance, my army infantry broke the enemy lines and the heavy cavalry opened the gap. The enemy general wisely decided to withdraw his men so that he could fight another day, left us so exhausted that we couldn't chase them ... and it remains only to collect the wounded

I am waiting with a Battle on White Mountain.
Re: 30 Years War team event
Shock news from Germany, ahuyton's protestants have managed a win against snugglebunnies (alias Wallenstein)'s catholics, 61-54.
Early on, the game was marked by conversation as the two Generals harangued each other, both trying to claim that they were feeling pessimistic. Early results seemed to favour the Catholic keils but the Protestant cavalry did well on both flanks and in the centre their shooting eventually wore down the Keils who on a couple of dramatic turns crumbled. By that time, the Protestant cavalry had returned to the centre to help secure a narrow victory.

Please forgive the occasional meowing of one of my cats. He seems to know when I'm recording and need quiet...

Re: 30 Years War team event
Thanks for the nice video, and not just because of the outcome. But very interesting to see a game from the opponent's perspective and to see what they are worried about. In the end it was pretty close and I had a lot of luck with the double disrupt on your Keils on turn 12. But I (finally) take your point about the problems with the Keil units.SnuggleBunnies wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 2:29 pm

Re: 30 Years War team event
Fybyyn dont join to ours game, i supposed that about lack of time.
Have we got any scenario for future?
Maybe someone else wants to fight on White Muntain, or we go to the next stage of war?

Re: 30 Years War team event
Hi Gribol
I think that we should cancel your game with Fybyyn.
We will start Lutzen very soon and I will post the match-ups.
