Hmm, the Napoleonic holy grail? Mechanically doable. If it's to be army-size actions with a span of command of not more than 20 maneuver elements then it's BGs representing and working effectively as brigade/divisional formations. None of the battery/battalion/squadron minor tactics and the ground scale adjusts upwards so musket range goes likely down to a couple MU. The whole command structure will have to be less free form as well and the mechanics reworked but all doable and with some more sparks of genius potentially excellent.

The movement and combat scale for Pike & Shot are likely the same as now, but the mechanics of mixed formations without abstracting them in Armati fashion is going to be a problem. With mixed formations on both sides the shooting mechanics will need to change to make good shooting rolls effective enough - POA changes, and maybe the +2 to death roll for being shot at would be reduced to +1 or the testing threshold for cohesion tests reduced so the shooters interlineated with the shot have decent prospects of effective action.

Quite a task, but well worthwhile.

Hussars and pancerni

Post by o54881 »

I believe that hussars and pancerni were in the same Battle Group.

That sounds a bit smallish for a scale.
not so sure. the frontage has to allow 4cm-wide bases to contact evenly, so your options are 8cm by 8cm or 12 by 12.

12 by 12 is *big*. but, the outer two cm on each edge could be for guns, the inner 8cm for pikes.

which means you're looking at about 16 guns (4 per corner), and 64 pikes (8 wide by 8 deep)!!

trying to recreate attrition on that base would be... difficult.

Probably at some scale yes. But certainly rather different element types within the BG.

Yep, lacking any new input or rules the debate stalls for the moment, but you are at the right place for FoGR

I am not sure that small details such as 'lacking ... new input or rules' will prove an obstacle to one as persistant as Luke.

Target date for the release of FoGR & army lists

Post by o54881 »

Is there a projected release date?
I ask so that conventions and competitions can plan for the launch.
Rampage, Cold Wars or IWF would need some notice to allow for the event.

Sorry no can do - you'll have to await an announcement from Slitherine and/or Osprey on that.

Most certainly if they get the Hugenot (sp?) list right and allow Millers to be super troops.

Matteo

Yes it is true. I have seen it with my own eyes on Amazon UK (though I have not got a pre-order out there). Believe same applies on Canada Amazon. Also there is a 30YW/ECW companion available to pre-order
