Have tried using the "You have got to be DAFt not to buy DAF", line, which I think worked with you or was it steve-H8.
He should be in the CC team at all times really as it is his baby. So it is his right, nay duty to buy all of the books:)
PS Slitherine will I be receiving any commission.

Just TGM and Aristides to pick-up their challenges in matches 5 and 7 respectively. PM's will be sent shortly. Everything else is underway OK.

I can't wait until the fight is over and I get to read this...stockwellpete wrote:The AAR between hidde and Morbio is now underway here . . .

Is there any way I can explain my thoughts at various points in the battle or did I need to create my own AAR to do this?
Edit: Maybe I'll send them to Hidde at the end and he can add my strategy and tactics (yes, I do have some

I take it the reason you are asking this is that you have agreed with Anders not to read the AAR while it is in progress in case important information is revealed e.g. about the "evade" status of skirmishers etc?Morbio wrote:I can't wait until the fight is over and I get to read this...stockwellpete wrote:The AAR between hidde and Morbio is now underway here . . .

If I can remind both of you that the winner should PM the final result to me rather than putting it straight on the forum so as not to spoil the ending for people who are following the match. Thanks!

Yes, I don't want to read it while it is active because I may gain an advantage by;
- reading Anders' tactics (assuming he is sharing these with you)
- seeing evade status
- seeing units that FoW may exclude from me.

The alternative approach that others have used is to have two parallel topics in the AAR forum, one for each side. That way you can post screenshots that you don't want Anders to see as well.

Unfortunately we're too advanced in the game for me to do that.... and I hate taking screenshots because the game just fails to do it most of the timebatesmotel wrote:Hi Morbio,Morbio wrote:Yes, I don't want to read it while it is active because I may gain an advantage by;

So 5 results in and just 3 to go before the full quarter-final line-up is known. Already we have had two "cup upsets" with Morbio and Radio defeating hidde and Fedem respectively. And we also had a massive statement of intent from the current number 1 FOG player iversonjm who achieved a resounding victory in his third round match.
The draw for the quarter-finals will be held on Saturday 20th October at midday. Third round matches should be completed by close of play (UK time) on Friday 19th October - a 48 hour extension may be granted for unfinished matches that are nearing completion.

Just two 3rd Round results to come in now. The Aristides v maharg25 match is unlikely to be finished by Friday and will be subject to adjudication then if it is not completed because one of the players is away for the weekend and into next week. On the other hand, the davouthojo v mortonj match is well advanced and may be finished by Friday. If it is not then I will grant a 2 day extension. At the moment an upset is still quite a feasible result as davouthojo is behind after 10 turns.
The Quarter-Final draw will be held at midday (UK time) on Saturday 20th October.

Quarter-final preview
The first match is between the current tournament favourite and number one FOG player of the moment, iversonjm and his seemingly invincible Buyid army, and our giant-killer mortonj, who dispatched the holder of the competition (davouthojo) in the previous round. Terrain will be the key, I expect, in this one with the Seleucids definitely preferring more open terrain. Will Jim be able to use his 50 point advantage to cause another upset and continue his giant-killing exploits?
In match 2 the beaten finalist from the first tournament, ericdoman1 and his Jewish revolt army, faces a tricky contest against macsen's Gepid army. macsen will have a 50 point advantage in the match and must feel that his lancers have a reasonable chance if they can get in amongst the Jewish infantry. Eric is a wily campaigner though and I predict that this game will be very close.
Match 3 sees a very intriguing semi-historical encounter between the other Jewish revolt army of Aristides and TheGrayMouser's Principate Romans. Nothing much to choose between these two players and they are both playing with 350points. Will Roman armour prevail or will the mobility of the rebels be the decisive factor? This one could also go either way.
The last match sees Radio and his Lowland Gauls facing Morbio's Seleucid army. In the last round Radio was able to use the mobility of the Gauls to defeat the Carthaginians, who are similar in some respects to the Seleucids. So can he repeat his performance or will Morbio, the conqueror of hidde in the last round, prevail and secure a semi-final place?
I am hoping that the match between Morbio and Radio will be subject to an AAR - I will confirm that later on. If anyone else in the quarter-finals wants to do an AAR, or just post a few screen-shots then by all means clear it with your opponent first and then proceed. I am also encouraging players to post progress reports of their matches on this thread if they want to. Good luck to everyone.

Mac and I have just begun.
He has a 39 bp Gepid army, which has taken me by surprise. He is set up on the same map that I lost to davouthojo in the final last year (a bad omen?).
On his left within deployment a hill with steep slopes, some woods in 2 patches running down his left of the map. To his right is a large gully with broken ground around it.
Within my deployment on the left are 2 patches of plantations. In the centre close to my deployemnt is a gentle hill and centre (my) left another gentle hill, about a march and a half away from me.

Its quality vesus quantity (33 Seleucuds versus 22 Dailami. The terrain is woods on my left and a large hill on my right. In the early manouvring we have turned nearly 90 degrees with the Seleucids on the hill side and the Dailami somewhere in the woods. The initial combats are occurring following my cavalry getting a bit keen.
