Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
I'm not sure if it's been discussed and honestly I could see how Steam distrubtion would be very bad for a publisher like Slitherine/Matrix especially on a flagship title like PZCorps which if the revenue stream was killed by a steam flop could be very bad for the company.
With that said I think a brilliant idea would be to submit for Greenlight. Not even because it would get in, odds are it wouldn't there are simply to many games. But it would be free publicity and exposure to steam customers who otherwise might never hear of this game. Free marketing essentially. The only risk is if the terms of Greenlight require you to sign with Steam should they accept your title.

Valve may scrap the idea of Greenlight. At least Gabe Newell said in an interview it didn't work out and they may get rid of it.

Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
Jon Shafer, the game designer for Civ5, just posted a postmortem on that game on Gamasutra. One interesting detail is that he mentioned that the supply system in his new Kickstarter game is inspired by Unity of Command. He also mentions how the hex-grid and 1-unit-per-tile system of Civ5 is inspired by Panzer General, although he doesn't reference Panzer Corps at all. I would imagine if he were aware of Panzer Corps, this game would get a mention in the notes where he discusses AI.

Although I personally dislike Steam, I can see how it massively raises the profile of a game. I wonder if Shafer is only aware of Unity of Command because of Steam?

I'm pretty sure that without Steam he wouldn't have met UoC. Generally millions of people assume that steam=PC gaming. There are dinosaurs like Matrix that seem to not have noticeddeducter wrote:Jon Shafer, the game designer for Civ5, just posted a postmortem on that game on Gamasutra. Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
Count me in as another hoping that Panzer Corps will one day find its way to Steam. I only have the base game right now, but I would rebuy it and all the expansions in an instant if I could have them all integrated with my Steam collection. Steam is the focal point for my PC gaming right now, and I'd almost forgotten I'd even bought Panzer Corps until I found the exe buried in a folder on my desktop. Getting it updated manually is taking a while, and by the time the update is finished I will have lost the small window of time I was hoping to play it in. If it was on Steam it would have already been updated automatically, so I could have just jumped in and played a bit more.

Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
Sounds like they want to make Steam MORE accessible to game developers. That would be a good thing, as in the past, that has been the reason I have had told to me was the reason they had trouble making use of the Steam option in the first place.Dragoon wrote:Valve may scrap the idea of Greenlight. Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
Great news! I post this on few forums (for startegy games fans).
Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
The only thing about Steam is that I really, really hope PzC and other future titles don't become Steam exclusive, like what is happening with Stardock's newest Fallen Enchantress expansion. I would happily pay somewhat more to have the more conventional installation options.
Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
So far there are no plans to make PzC a Steam-exclusive title.

Voted here, too! I really hope it gets picked up. I'd love to buy it on Steam as well.
Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
I'm with deducter on this, don't make Panzer Corps a Steam-exclusive. And likewise I'm willing to pay more to avoid this.deducter wrote:The only thing about Steam is that I really, really hope PzC and other future titles don't become Steam exclusive, like what is happening with Stardock's newest Fallen Enchantress expansion. We have no plans to go exclusive with anything on Steam. We've been doing digital delivery of games long before Steam and have no intention of stopping
Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
I think that Steam could be an avenue to bring the game to a wider audiance. I am glad you are still planning on taking care of your older customers!

Re: Yet another steam (Digital Distro) thread
Voted the game up on Steam, but not sure if they plan to retain the Greenlight concept.
Either way, I never subscribe to the concept of 'exclusives', never saw the point of a source deciding to intentionally limit their product.
I would never advise anyone to do a Steam exclusive or to refuse to sell anywhere other than a company page.

Panzer Corps has been greenlighted:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =131062882
Hope the developers can get some kind of discount to the ones that have already purchased the games plus some expansions.
Finally an easy way to re-install the game.
