Re: 30 Years War team event
Just an update:- Andre and I are having a right old seesaw...could be anyone's, with one or two turns to go...it's nail-biting stuff! The ratio is currently at 49-47 with both sides licking their wounds and no fresh troops...where's those reinforcements I sent for Brian!

Re: 30 Years War team event
So I updated the posts to reflect our new recruits, Tomoegozen and Gribol.
In case they are very keen to get the whole experience and also play the very interesting initial scenario, can I ask for volunteer opponents?
As a reminder, Gribol has joined the anti-Imperial protestants and Tomoegozen the Imperial, Habsburg Catholics.

Re: 30 Years War team event
Ever since the Imperial cavalry general Gottfried Heinrich Graf zu Pappenheim had been sent to besiege the Lutheran-dominated city [Protestant city of Magdeburg] in November 1630, the hard-bitten mercenaries who made up the bulk of his army had lain in the mud and filth of the trenches outside Magdeburg, dreaming of the loot within. Now they filled the streets. Drunken pikemen and musketeers dragged ill-gotten plunder and captive women, and cuirassiers plunged their chargers through shop windows and over fleeing burghers, while officers vainly tried to marshal their uncontrollable men. Drumbeats, gunshots, pleading and screams resounded through the streets, accompanied, inevitably, by the crackle of flames.

VICTORY Yes, you heard it here first...with the battlecry of 'Magdeburg quarter' ringing in the papists ears we have taken our revenge.
The Catholic cause has been severely damaged with the latest victory at BATTLE HILL. While our brave, devout protestant farm-boys and apprentices received heavy casualties, we all but destroyed the papist army as a fighting force. A final ratio of 62-49% meant we exacted 8176 enemy killed, 5001 men captured with the opportunity to recant their debauched ways, and 8 guns captured for reuse by our brave lads on the field. For Magdeburg!

Jack, why don't you join us. I suggest that you join with Andre's Catholics and jump into the Round Two game with me? I will launch it.

I'm a novice at Pike & Shot, but if something opens I'd like to give it a shot.

Re: 30 Years War team event
Thank you Gribol for the game , it was interesting...
The heretic army was found lurking in the depths of the forest, our brave soldiers attempted to drive them out but the very trees themselves seemed to sprout pike and arquebus. If there was any proof needed of the enemy being in league with the devil himself it was this un-natural battle.
It was one of those games where nothing went right...
Next time Gribol , next time...

Re: 30 Years War team event
Well done Gribol, a nice win but TomoeGozen has clearly learned the lessons. He is playing very well against me at the White Mountain.

Re: 30 Years War team event
In the latest encounter between Tilly's Catholic forces (Lascar) and my Protestant rabble, the Protestants managed to win 60-38. There were three intact and marauding enemy Keils at the end of play, but my cavalry managed to outnumber and defeat the enemy mounted troops and my nervous shot and pike blocs had enough shooting power to break sufficient enemy infantry to seal a win. An interesting encounter and it is always a pleasure to play with Dave (Lascar).
I am surprised to see all these Protestant wins, not least my own, but Lascar believes that the Protestant forces are superior due to their flexibility from having small units that can work effectively together. I will probably have to alter this assessment after my game with Snugglebunnies but for the moment it makes sense to me.
