Hi Leon, which language are you trying to install? Which language is the box & manual in? Maybe there is a language specific issue that we need to check out.

Where did you choose to install the game to? Do you have enough diskspace on that drive?

Can you also check which version of DirectX you have. Run dxdiag.exe from the Start Menu -> run. If you do not have DirectX9.0c the game will not run.

Hi Iain
I'm trying to run the English version and both box and manual are in English. When I come to select language I have to do this twice - once on the front install menu where if you hover over a language / selection the button shows the colour of the national flag and then again shortly afterwards where you select language from a pick list.

I've just run DxDiag which shows 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904). There is just over 20 Gigs free on my hard drive and I'm trying to install to C:\Games\.......... The video card is an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500DV - the driver is version 6.13.0010.6166 which is the latest I can find. The PC is about three years old and is an AMD Athlon XP 2400+. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition.
I've also got copies of Spartan and Troy which run OK.

Hope that helps but if there is anything else you need to know please let me know.
Regards
Leon

Can you try running the game in a window & turning off the sound. This might help us to find the problem.

Go to the data dir and look for a file called user.txt. Add the following lines to the file

FULLSCREEN 0
NOSOUND 1

Try this and tell me if you see anything at all after the initial movie.

Iain, I've just tried that and this time around I didn't get to see the opening movie. I clicked "Play Game", a very brief noise and a black screen. I tried taking the Window line out from User.txt and while it seemed to go for slightly longer still no opening movie. Also tried removing the sound option from the user.txt file (back to where it was at the beginning) and still can't see the opening movie. I'm sure it's not my imagination but I have definitely seen the opening movie! When Alt / tabbing through the screens and Ctrl Alt Del to close the programs I can see a program called Bink video plus Arena (neither responding)

I'm only around for a short while but will be back on again later this evening.

I've had one more try. I completely reinstalled the program and this time selected the default option for the directory to install it to (C:\programFiles) About 85% through the setup routine according to the progress bar I was prompted to insert disc 2 and as you suggested I waited quite a while before doing so. However, I still came up with the same problem about the wrong volume in the drive and inserted disc 1 (I was unable to clear the message box without changing the discs) The DirectX setup menu remained on screen while i was doing this and I selected the option not to install it. The setup program then prompted me for disc 1 although it was still in the drive and I ejected the disc / put it back in. A message then came up to say the program had been successfully installed and the program exited back to the desktop. I launched the program from the icon - selected "Play Game" and the intro movie ran all the way through - showing various maps etc + sound. The game then crashed at this point.

I edited "User.txt" adding the two lines in your earlier posting, launched the program from the icon on the desktop. A menu appeared and a sound played every time I moved the mouse over one of the buttons. I selected "Play Game" and it crashed immediately.

I've checked the size of the nstallation and it's come up as 762 MBs again. I wonder if the program has completely installed - not sure what the correct size should be. Hope all that makes sense and thanks for your help.

762MB is the correct install size before the game has created cache files. It sounds like the game has actually fully installed but there is some other problem effecting your PC. I'll talk to Phil about it!

Can I ask where you got your drivers from? On the ATI site they say that the latest version of the Radeon drivers are 8.191. This is the link I am looking at:

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/def ... lderID=293

That is not to say that the drivers don't have different internal versions which are confusing us!

It is the Catalyst 5.11 download that I am talking about.

Pip, Apologies for the delay in coming back but Success!!

I followed the link you provided and I've downloaded the complete Catalyst 5.11 download which has fixed the problem. I hadn't downloaded the complete package before and must have been missing something. A bit confused by the different number of ATI components and various driver versions but the main thing is the problem is resolved. Must admit I didn't think it was a driver problem and thought it was tied up with the installation program not completing properly.

I would have responded earler this morning but once I'd loaded the game I found it difficult to come out!!

Thanks for all the help which is really appreciated.
