OK, so this is the link for the AAR (after-action report) for what is probably the pick of the first round matches between massina_nz and Sharkall . . .massina_nz wrote: Just started the AAR now.

I have asked the winner of this game to PM the result to me rather than put it on the forum so as not to give the ending away.

Umm, sorry to disappoint, but it will definitly not be the pick of the matches, more like a damp squib. I've already passed teh vaseline to Sharkall.stockwellpete wrote:OK, so this is the link for the AAR (after-action report) for what is probably the pick of the first round matches between massina_nz and Sharkall . . .massina_nz wrote: Just started the AAR now.

Re: FOG:It's a Knock-out 2. Tournament news and results.
I have received progress reports from all the unfinished matches now (5 of them) and there is only one that is behind schedule. The final deadline for completing all first round matches is 10pm (UK time) Tuesday 25th September. Games not completed by this time (i.e. result posted in forum) will be subject to adjudication.
The Second Round draw will take place next Saturday 22nd September at midday (UK time). Players may start their second round matches immediately.

Re: FOG:It's a Knock-out 2. Tournament news and results.
The second round draw is now available in the second post on the first page of this thread. Players may start their games immediately. Matches 7 and 15 will have to wait until the two remaining first round games are finished (both are nearing completion).
I would like to thank all the first round losers for participating in the tournament. Without your contribution the tournament would not have been as exciting as it is now. Turk1964 is running another KO tournament on the forum especially for those of you who might like another try at this type of competition. FOG:It's a Knock-out 3 is provisionally scheduled for March/April 2013.

Just one more first round match to be completed and that is just one turn away from its conclusion. It looks like nearly all of the second round matches have got underway where both opponents are known. Any problems please contact me as soon as possible.

Everything seems to be going smoothly now in Round 2. All the challenges have disappeared off the FOG screen so the games are all properly underway. There is just a delay on match 16 and Jim will be back at the weekend to start his match against Peter.

We are just over half-way through the time allocated for your second round matches. The deadline is close of play on Friday 5th October. A 48 hour extension may be granted for games nearing their conclusion. Please contact me as quickly as possible if your opponent has "disappeared" for some reason. In a couple of days time I will start sending out PM's for progress reports on the unfinished games.
The draw for the 3rd Round will take place on Saturday 6th October at midday (UK time).

Just three second round matches to be completed now. They are all reasonably well-advanced although one of them may need a 48 hour extension to finish. The draw for the 3rd Round will be held on Saturday as already indicated and players will be able to start their matches immediately.

Hi Pete
I will not be able to use my pc and the game until, 8th October.
I will prob forget to do this so... If you did have a draw at the end, I'd go with who has killed the most bps so if you had a 28/28 vs b 35/35. a wins.

OK Eric, you will only miss a couple of days so that should be OK. I will add your suggestion to Morbio's when we review the tournament. Thanks.ericdoman1 wrote:Hi Pete

The third round draw is now available in the second post on the first page of this thread. Players may start their games immediately. Match 4 will have to wait until the second round match between Londo and claymore is completed - I have given them another 48 hours to do this.
I would like to thank all the second round losers for participating in the tournament. FOG:It's a Knock-out 3 is provisionally scheduled for March/April 2013.

There will be another AAR for you all to follow in this round. It will be the fascinating hidde (Catalan Company, later) 300pts versus Morbio (Later Seleucids, post-166BC) 350pts match-up at the top of the draw. hidde was a semi-finalist last time but he will be conceding 50pts to Morbio who is a bit of a specialist with the "Rise of Rome" armies. It should be good!

3rd Round Preview
I am just going to give a quick assessment of the third round matches for the benefit of newer players who may be following the competition and who are not familiar yet with all the players.
The first match is between hidde and Morbio. hidde was a beaten semi-finalist last time and has consistently been in the top 5 best players of FOG over the last year or so while Morbio is rather unique in that he only has the "Rise of Rome" expansion pack and he has become very, very experienced with the armies in that book. With a 50pt handicap in his favour I am expecting Morbio to give hidde a very stern test in their Seleucid v Catalan Company match-up. This match will the subject of an AAR too.
The second match promises to be a real humdinger with two of the top players going head to head at 300pts each - ericdoman1 was the beaten finalist last time and he likes to play a very attacking game with his Jewish Revolt army and ianiow is famous for his very large armies and he is usually sponsored by Carpel Tunnels Inc (
), although this time he has picked the more orthodox Classical Spartans. Again, this should be very close.
The next game drawn out of the hat is another crunch game between iversonjm with his Dailami Buyid army against the very experienced Triarius who is using his favourite army, the Medieval Aragonese. Triarius will have a 50pt advantage in this game to try and cause a major upset by beating the current number 1 player of FOG.
Two relatively newer tournament players come head to head in match 4 after very creditable wins in the second round against experienced opponents. Londo and his Sassanid Persians narrowly defeated claymore while macsen triumphed with his Gepids against Lysimachos, who was playing with 300pts.
Match 5 sees two veterans of the FOG scene come face to face - batesmotel reached the semi-final last time and a "rejuvenated" The Gray Mouser will be hoping to have a similar run this time. These two players have faced each other many times in the past and this could go either way.
The winner of the first tournament davouthojo features in match 6 against a relative newcomer mortonj. On paper it would seem that davouthojo and his Carthaginian army will start as clear favourites for this match but can mortonj use his 50pt advantage to cause a major upset with his powerful Seleucid army?
Match 7 features Aristides and maharg25 in another match that should be very close. Aristides is using another of the Jewish revolt armies while maharg25 is using the same Christian Nubian army that davouthojo used to win the first KO tournament. Could the Christian Nubians be on for a remarkable tournament double?
The last match features Fedem, who has also chosen a Carthaginian army, and Radio who is using a Gallic Lowland army. Radio is another relative newcomer to the tournament scene so will start as the underdog here but his more mobile army is definitely capable of making things very difficult for the more steady Carthaginians.

That's not quite true because Eric Doman recently persuaded me to buy Legions Triumphant to become the 5th UK player in the Companion's Cup, but it is fair to say I've played about 95% of my games with RoR and the Seleucids are the army I've played most.stockwellpete wrote:3rd Round Preview

Oh, that's not strictly true either
It took me 2 years (all bar a couple of weeks) and 9 attempts to get my 1st victory against Eric and I only won 3 out of the 6 games since purchasing LT! Needless to say I am chuffed by this turnaround of fortunes!
