Results are up on the Warfare website. Perhaps Alasdair won't be taking foot again anytime soon? Personally I reached mid-table mediocrity - but glad to see that I'm the highest scoring Transylvanian, at least!

The results have been cut up and are difficult to read on the WAR website. I will try to provide Steve with an easier format but in the meantime I would like to paste my Excel spreadsheet version into this post, but the format won't come out so all I get is a string of numbers beside each name, which is if anything harder to read. :? I am not allowed to uploaded an .xlsx file.

Help?!

Hi

had a good weekend and learn't a lot, my foot beat all P & S and managed to get a draw against two mismatches for my army namely Tims armoured keils and cuirassiers and Don samaurai, so lots of lessons learned but that said back to mounted with avengance soon

Thanks to everybody for making it as ever a good and enjoyable weekend

cheers

Alasdair

I had 4 really good games, and was pleasantly surprised that the period chosen produced some really interesting and unusual matchups (rather than a load of mismatches, as I'd half feared at one point).

Other than two spectacular double-drops in cohesion tests with two of my three Kiels against Dave Allen in the final game I might even have been at risk of troubling the engravers this time around as well - and I think I can claim to have had the toughest draw of anyone in the top 10 (based on the final placings of all of my opponents).

Amazing what can happen when you take time to actually think about your army choice in relation to possible opponents, refine your list selection several times, come up with a plan and then execute it with a reasonable degree of rigor in every game eh? Chances are I won't be able to repeat any of it ever again mind you...

Well I saw the make up of Armies for Warfare and felt that with the Japanese, I had entered a scissors, paper, stone competition and had chosen paper when most of the other entries were scissors!! Certainly I took some stick so I resigned myself to just having some fun with a one dimensional army getting it's first ever outing!!

So by jingo, did the Samurai outperform expectations  !!! They were helped by some favourable matchups (although not favourable terrain) as I didn't face a single P&S opponent all weekend. My armoured and heavily armoured footy boys faced off against Hungarians, Knights of St John, Turks and Chinese!! How good was that - Buddha was obviously shining down on the land of the Rising Sun (that's a terrible mixed metaphor!).

I had four great games and was able to build up a decent lead before I had the task of facing down Alasdair on the Top table in the last round - yes I had an army he didn't want to face and yes I played for a draw, but Alasdair doesn't do sitting around and many an opponent has been gutted by only half his army. My Samurai were able to set up a nice defensive position and despite his cavalry battering me, breaking off and battering again and killing 2 of my Generals, I held on for the draw I needed. My Great Commander was "Inspired" and over the weekend, recovered 3 broken BG's and keeping the army tight made passing CT's and CMT's a lot easier.

So I have proven that even a complete incompetent, with the aid of a good draw and average dice, can sneak a competition win! I had some "cunning plans" on facing the P&S troops but I suspect these would just have resulted in some tight draws. Maybe I'll get brave and give the Samurai a run out some other time to see if they work!!

Thanks to Tim Child, for organising yet another great weekend and for checking loads of FOGR lists when Renaissance (and FOG) isn't his "bag" and also to my 4 opponents, Alan, Robin, Kevin (aka Benny Hill) and Alasdair for some great games played in a very sporting manner.

Now roll on the Oxford one day comp on 6th January to see if I can start 2013 where I left off in 2012.

Well done Don.

And I don't think your fooling anyone with the incompetent comment.

Careful Tim, next you'll be suggesting that wargames involve skill and not just outrageous dice-throwing.

If you read Tim' s note, I had actually read into this that his plan was in fact to have loaded dice.

Yes, an excellent weekend. I got to play 3 people I'd not played before, plus Don whom I'd only played in doubles. Don's army choice was an absolute nightmare for me as my army contained a lot of unarmoured medium foot. At one point I hade 32 bases doing a conga into a forest to try to get away. The Benny Hill theme would have been very appropriate!
