May the force be with Lucas

I haven't seen the movie but I will quote something from Scott R. Kurtz (PVP) "There were things in the movie that really stunk. Any time Anakin and Padme were on screen were excrutiating and cheesy. These two can act. I've seen them act before. I wonder what process of filming Star Wars prevents them from acting well together."

Perhaps there is some kind of special relationship between those two actors, good or bad, that doesn't allow them to act well in the presence of the other..

Oh man I hope they will keep showing it well into June since I might not manage to go to Cardiff next week.

Just out of curiosity, for those who saw the movie in English, did parts seem dubbed?

Most films undergo a process know as "ADR" which is where they re-record their lines and mix them down over the top of the films (this is because in movies sound and images are recorded seperately and often the sound is un-usable, due to an unwanted noise on the location or something similar... bit of trivia also at this point, clip boards i.e.: Scene 1 Take 3 *whack* are used so that the sound and image can be put in sync later on.) Anyways, its quite possible that the actor didn't say the line in the exact same was they did on the day, and hence the mouth may appear a little out... thats prolly what you are seeing.

After some thought, I considered the fact that so much of the sets were completely superimposed that the actors would be acting on a blank canvess to make the superimposure easier. I think that Lucas' direction of the actors played a role in the performances. I thought that the only actors who really delivered were Ewan McGregor and Samuel Jackson, but McGregor and Jackson are both superb actors and their performances in the movie were a poor reflection of their performances throughout their careers. Even James Earl Jones' voice cameo at the end was dissapointing! I attribute many of the problems with the movie to Lucas' relative inactivity as a director in the past couple of decades.

Perhaps the most dissapointing thing about the movie for me, even though I saw it coming, was the poor photography. A movie is moving pictures; that's the whole point! Photography is not to be readily neglected in movie making, but Lucas decided that special effects were more important.

Star Wars is by Lucas' own admission "written for 12 year olds"... so it's designed to appeal to younger people... it just happens alot of the older generation like it too, at least he's being true to his original intent and not selling out...

I've never considered Lucas a sell-out, but I've always considered Lucas to be in the business for the purpose of making money. Of course there's nothing wrong with making money, but being a director is such a difficult job that if you don't maintain some artistic passion about your work that your performance is bound to suffer. Even if this is it for his movies, I'm sure Lucas will continue to play a role in directing his video games (what an entrepreneur!).

I loved indiana jones, willow and star wars, so i've liked alot of his back catologue... not seen the newest in the collection but i have every faith it'll be decent... ah well, i'll have to run along like a good little lucas fan to the movies and check it out

I saw the film. Good film, nothing special about it, but arguably better that the previous two, the final hour is great except for these lava colors...It made me want to see the DVDs again.

The main problem with the whole trilogy is that I don't believe the romantic story between Padme and that neo-fascist Annakin. Man, he was bad even before being tempted by the dark side. He didn't fall into the dark side, he WAS the dark side. What was Padme thinking about???

And the first two films are completely irrelevant, you only need the third one to understand the whole trilogy.

Anyway, I'll buy the DVD boxed set with the new trilogy as well

, I even bought "The Return Of The King"
