Re: TDC IX Early Medieval - Results
Division A
Stones1985 (Order of St John) beat Cherebuschka (Armenian/Cilician) by a score of 51 to 25.
The game got off to a poor start for me where a unit of my heavy Cavalry Turcopoles failed to beat a Light Infantry bow in the open despite hitting it in the back. The melee continued for several turns until some of the Light Infantry's friends turned up and hit the Turcopoles in the flank routing them. Sadly for my opponent that was the extent of his fortune. My Highly Superior Knights were on magnificent form and his line crumbled.
Thanks for the game.

Division B
SawyerK with the Babylonian 890-729 BC army and Neo-Hittite ally
defeated
Armchairbaron and his Philistine 1166-801 BC army and Syro-Canaanite ally
by 62-38.
The Babylonians deferred their left flank while using arrow fire on their right to weaken the barricaded Philistines before engaging in melees. The battle in the middle, where the Babylonian heavy chariots made fortunate follow-on charges as they followed routed units, proved decisive.

Captainwaltersavage English 1272 - 1319 with Irish
defeats
Nijis Sicilian 1155-1193
but only just
61:57 The English and the Sicilians went toe to toe pretty much from the start. The English appeared to have an advantage at the beginning and certainly won the infantry battle but the Sicilian knights where on brilliant form and won all the evenly balanced matchups. The Sicilian light cav caused immense damage to the English and returned the match to an even match up and then accelerated past the English. Right at the end the English managed to defeat some enemy knights, caught a couple of fragmented infantry trying to hide and managed to hide their own battered troops just long enough. One rally would have won it for the Sicilians - I asked for more close matchups and this was balanced on a knife edge. Great game.

I have created a challenge between my Fatamid Egyptians (with Crusader allies) and IMC's English (with Welsh allies). Seems like a long way to go for a battle, but I guess there might also have been time travel, in which case distance is a pretty trivial thing!

Division B
Chris Townsend's Egyptian 1200 defeated alexmike1's Syro-Cannanite 1207 and their Egyptian 1149 allies 51 to 22.
It was a suitably dry map with the defensive terrain on the Egyptian side (a woods and enclosures in the centre, a low hill going forward on their left, and an open hill behind their right flank. The Egyptians placed close fighters and bowmen in the enclosures, light archers in the woods, and the guard in between. On the open right flank they had half a dozen light chariots, while their left flank contained the attacking force of Libyans, supported by skirmishers, a chariot and an early cavalry. The Syro-Cannanites deployed a large force of heavy and light chariots on their left, driving the Egyptians back to the hill. Their main force was primarily composed of impact swordsmen, with some supporting missile troops, which, together with some diverted chariots made short work of the Egyptian guard and light troops. The diverted chariots allowed the Egyptian chariots to successfully return to the fray by disrupting the remaining heavy chariots with bow fire. Meanwhile, the close fighters in the enclosures held, allowing the Libyans to sweep in from their flank, and this proved decisive.
Good game!
