Well, I'd like to report glorious deeds by the Allies in the bocage village encounter, but I have to say I'm up against a very experienced and intelligent Axis commander. In a fight between Allied light and medium armour opposing Axis light and medium and heavy armour, unless one's opponent is green or foolish, the Allies are going to have a rough go of it. My opponent is neither green nor foolish. And so, at the conclusion of the Allied turn, with 10 turns remaining, the flags are 4-4, the Allies have lost two shermans, two M-24s, one M-5, one scout unit; and the Axis have lost one Puma, one Panther, one Skdfz, one infantry, one scout unit. I'd like to arrange for some shots on the Axis armour from the flanking and rear positions I've heard about, but there seems to be a sort of force field or something which prevents my units from moving more than a short distance around either flank. (an aide whispers that it is called the map boundary).

Hastily, from the battlefield
(what is that infernal clanking outside my tent?)

The Wehrmacht thought they were going to enjoy some free-time with some French wine and more but came across stiff resistance. The allied Commander has trained his troops well learning the ways of the bocage much quicker than they had anticipated, hiding and waiting to take that opportune shot more often than not.

With airstrikes and artillery, there is no safe area in this town.
The German commander, used to open fields of Russia and using the long guns of his Panthers and Tigers to deadly effect is frustrated by this and has finally drove "hell or high water" in with guns blazing. Once the dust and haze clears it will be interesting who stays in control of this unnamed, unknown village and how much blood will be spilled..

also hastily just before escaping the wreckage of said burning Puma..

Generalfeldmarschall Acererak came out from the Allied General tent with a half smile on his face. He knew well his fellow Wermacht Commander, and was sure all the details passed to the enemy in that brown envelope should be enough to turn the tide in favor of the allies in the bloody fight for that tiny village in the middle of France. Just for today. It would be to no avail in any case.

The Allied General believed his story about him being one of those Generals conspiring against the Reich. Bait had been bitten.

Holding Generaloberst Sleet in this village for a few more days should be enough to give him the time needed to push his advance with his own men on the unexpected flank, and be the first to conquer the major city at the crossroads that would open the way to the Normandy beaches.

"Great deeds are reserved for great men".

And his men deserved the glory.

So did he.

Total victory for Axis. The enemy forces were totally annihilated before the time limit (4 turns remaining).
We drink Calva (Norman french alcohol) in the village.

Piratejock, please can you see my post on Tech forum. I've freezing when I've attacked your mortar unit with my Tiger unit during an overrun on the hill (I think your last remaining unit on your last flag).

I need to know for Flags:
Axis 8 - Allied 1 or Axis 9 - Allied 0 ?
Are you agree with Kills and losses:
Kills: Axis 33 - Allied 7
Losses: Axis 7 - Allied 33

Thank you.

Impressive game CharlyG :D

I got completely caught by surprise in the first couple of turns by a major thrust towards my right flank, including both Panthers and Panzer IVs and at least 3 infantry units in the wood containing the flag (hadn't expected to see anyone in there!). I'd thought you wouldn't come that way in numbers as too restricted. Consequently lost both M18s, the Firefly, M16 AA, at least 1 Sherman and 1 or 2 infantry by the end of the Axis' 2nd turn!

The plan had been to set up covering your approaches and then move forward with overwatch ... never had a chance  With those loses it all became a bit desperate and spread out on my part - losing units, seemingly every time they moved, and not being close enough to even get a chance to kill ... the number of times I saw 0%! And to add insult to injury I lost both M5s to a very well placed Panzershreck.

I'll check the game when I'm home tonight to confirm the numbers and see about the freezing.

Well played

I think mobility is the key to achieve victory in this battle. I remember the N.B. Forrest maxim "first with the most".

The wood on my left flank was my first objective. To take this one , I have needed aicraft support (I was lucky, your AA unit didn't shoot down my airplane, and I have successed to suppress your infantry in woods) and infantry support (1 waffen ss unit, 1 scout unit and another unit). If I remember, the beginning of the fights was 3rd turn with my attack on your suppressed unit following the aircraft attack and you had severe losses during 3rd turn and 4th turn.

Just checked the game. It does freeze at the very end when you finish off the mortar team on the flag. As you've done it as overun that means you took the last flag. So final score was 9 flags to Axis with 33 to 7 kills. Giving grand totals of ...

Axis 165 - enough said
Allies 0 - thank goodness we don't do negative!

My Shermans and Butterflys have done everything I asked, but are being relentlessly ground to powder under the Axis armour. The Axis hold 6 flags to 3, at the end of Allied move with 6 turns remaining. The Allied situation is unlikely to improve. We have attempted to move, to ambush, to flank, to pick off, but Axis heavy tanks tend to shrug at all of that & crunch ahead knowing that, whatever the range, their odds are likely to be better than yours. And my more than worthy Axis counterpart, Sleet, never put at excessive risk or flaunted the resources under his control. Through the flames, my salute...

Are all the Allies facing the same total defeat?

It is early, but my Allied forces are holding there own vs junk2drive. We each have 5 kills and the flags are fairly evenly split. However, the Panthers are about to make their presence known in a very big way.

My last turn stunk. SG does well with moving his infantry in and out, killing me then out of danger. I just moved my Tiger one sq and lost it to a side shot from the FF on a hill.

Game over.
Axis victory. although it did not always look that way! Thanks for the game Crestone!

Allied
Kills: 12 = 24
Flags: 0
Total: 0

Axis
Kills: 33 minus my losses = 30
Flags: 9 = 90
Win: Y = 30
Total: 150

Some tense moments, there was a point blank attack rear shot a hellcat on my Panther and it deflected, and the pointblank rear attack by my Puma on the jumbo was successful.

Seems some of the Axis players are having major victories, but our games have played out almost the same. Lost my Panther to the FF on the hill as soon as i came around the corner of the forest i was destroyed. Lost a 2nd one carelessly driving next to an occupied square. The results of this tournament are very interesting so far.

hidde vs shawnt63, situation report:
Not very far gone yet. shawn was away during the week and I've been working all weekend.
One might almost call it a "mexican stand-off" at the moment. Both have tanks in position that makes any effort to grasp the initiative very risky indeed.
I've been lucky so far and have picked off one panther and one other panzer with no losses for me.
Five flags for the axis and four allied. Eleven turns to go I think, so much can happen still 8)

Game over.
My lucky start was a good omen and after the second Panther succumbed to infantry that sneaked into a house and the Tiger was taken out by a Hellcat the day was Allied.
Thanks for the game shawnt63. It ended somewhat abruptly so I missed both two flags and to comment :o

Axis
Kills: 7 = 14
Flags: 2 = 20
Loss: 30 = -90
Total: 0

Allied
Kills: 30 = 60
Flags: 7 = 70
Loss: 7 = -21
Win: = 30
Total: 139

Sleet and CharlyG must have had opponents that charged out into the open. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
