Golden Horde it is!

A Conquest puts the province under the control, if successful. However, any attack - including a raid - can win the player Victory Points. Victory Points are applied at the end of the turn (not the end of the game, as in most games, which I admit is a bit misleading), and the balance of VPs between two players in a war determine whether conquests succeed or not. Plus - VPs will lead to random events that expand your sphere of influence. The VP awarded are based on the battle scores,

In other words, raids are good for 1) hurting your enemy's economy, 2) a spoiler attack that reduces their chance of conquering you, and 3) power projection.

It's a bit of a complicated system, but the overall strategy is pretty simple - attack as much as you can, unless you're saving the resources for another purpose.

A spectacularly successful raid, even against a neutral, can lead several provinces to enter your sphere. One historical example might be - your merchants are mistreated in a neutral province, so you lead a punitive expedition. Impressed by your victory, several of your smaller neighbors put themselves under your protection. Raids are a cost-efficient way to build your empire, though it will be less solid than one built on conquests.

As always, though, you don't need to master the strategic game to survive, just to optimize the outcome of your fortunes on the battlefield.

anderarcos11, Doyley50, indibil - would you like to select from the Sea Peoples, Mycenaeans and Gasgans? If so we can get started. Or if you're more interested in the 1300 scenario, I can wait until others sign up.
I can play with egyptians? if not, i prefer sea peoples.

I'd like to announce that I am organizing a Bronze Age campaign set in 1200 BC and a late medieval campaign in 1300 CE using my Unity tool, Tides of Conquest.

I'd like to run about four weeks per round of battles, plus a week in between for doing orders.

You don't need to download ToC to play, but it will help with planning the turn and seeing your conquests unfold on the map. A link for the tool is here:
https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewfo ... 8882281a8b

If you don't want to use the tool, though, I can walk you through your orders. Note that there is a system of internal politics that determines how long empires can last, but you don't need to master it and can enjoy the game just by fighting battles.

If you want to get a sense of what a campaign is like, here's a link. Note that the graphics have improved and the rules have changed a bit since then...
https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=85832

For now, I'd like to keep the factions limited to Europe, the Middle East and India to make sure that there aren't too many NPC factions. If factions don't have a player, then I use the tool's AI functions to complete their turn and recruit someone to fight with their armies, or do so myself.

I hope we can start up the 1200 BC fairly quickly, though it might take a bit longer to fill out the extensive faction list for the 1300 CE scenario.
If there are enough players involved, then we can extend the war to China and the Silk Road armies.

Let me know if you're interested in one or both scenarios!

New choices added.

Only Gasgans remain for the Bronze Age. I'll keep this open a day or so, and if no one takes them I can play them temporarily and we can get this one started.

SpeedyCM is the Gasgans, and with Kronenblatt for the Mycenaeans that means the Bronze Age is all ready to go. I'll try to send off the first turn later today. Welcome all!

Hi!

My first post on the forum, but I would love to join in on this campaign. I am a pretty avid FOG2 player and have all of the expansions of both the original game and Medieval.

The campaign tool looks amazing and I'm keen to try it out in a single player campaign!

Two things:
1) Is there any reason you're not including Hungarians in the 1300 start? I would love to play as them.
2) I'm located in Australia, not sure if the time difference would hurt my ability to play. I'm usually available around 6-10pm in Melbourne, which is 8am-12pm in London or 3am-7am in New York.

I had forgotten to list Hungarians. I'll put you down for them. The time difference shouldn't be a problem. Welcome!

I'll aim to get this started in a week or so. I can use the tool AI for the non-player factions' strategic moves and players can volunteer to lead their forces on the battlefield, with me acting as a backstop if necessary.
