Post by longfellow101 »

Hi ..recently tried Panzer Corps on a box I bought...purchased a couple of add ons and finally bought the Gold version and needless to say I"m hooked...thanks for a great game...I 'm not as spry as I used to be (76 ) and I find the step from the lowest difficulty to the second level too much for me.....found on the forum the file needed is .pzdat....after all that will you pleas tell me how I open the file in order to edit it???
Apologies if I'm in the wrong section but I find it difficult to negotiate the different areas....pleas reply even if it means telling me to shove off

Cheers

Welcome to PzC, longfellow!

There are multiple files with the ".pzdat" extension; most (if not all) of them are found in the data folder and can be opened with notepad, though I recommend using something like Excel or OpenOffice. It's too easy to make mistakes in Notepad. Always make a backup before editing.

Before you do that though, when you're starting a new game, try using the "Advanced" tab on the Game Options screen. This takes you to a second screen with sliders where you can adjust all sorts of parameters to make the game harder or easier. Just be sure to tick the "Custom Difficulty" box near the top to enable your selections.

After you've completed the main campaign, there are many mods and user-made campaigns that are even better than the original game. Happy hunting and enjoy! :D

Hi longfellow101,

I know the feeling. PzC just keeps pulling me back even after 10 years.

In the diff.pzdat you are referring to, if you open it using Excel or Notepad, you can edit the amount of prestige you/the AI receive. Excel might be easier to use since it keeps the rows aligned thus easier to see. The diff file looks like this in Notepad:

I am not sure if there is way to dumb down the AI in PzC, but I think I remember reading on the forum that difficulty is determined mainly by the amount of prestige given out. Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Hope that helps

I agree with CW58, the options in game are a better first option than digging under the hood with the game files.

Hi Longfellow, and welcome to Panzer Corps! I'm sure you'll have many happy hours playing this maginificent game, as have I, as I approach my 60th bithday. This forum is understandably not as busy as it once was, but you'll find the community a friendly and helpful lot, so any questions - just ask.

Re: Editing files...SPEED CHANGES

Post by oobleko »

I see so many people wondering about the hex measures.

For every wargame I take the base mov for loaded inf on foot around 4km x 2 is two hexes per turn.
From there I recalculate all other speeds as real speed/km divided by 4 to get the hex distance in speed.

As hexes differ in every scenario it is impossible to switch every time so I JUST CONDISER THE TIME PER TURN TO CROSS A HEXCHANGING TO ADAPT O THE MESURES, KEEPING THE BASE DISTANCE IN HEXES THE SAME.
Standard Hex size is 4km and half an hour. A map twice that big would be 8km crossed in one hour without changing the hex speed of the units (Map half as big = 2km in 15minutes without changing the hex speed of the units.

If all designers would follow such a system we would never see inf moving nearly as fast as jeeps or tanks.
As a former LEOPARD Tank commander I can assure you that inf without transport vehicles are nearly worthless.

Your thoughts please, Leo
