Penalized in Tournament by mistake ?!
Hi,
so playing in the current Filed of Glory 2 tournament, my two matches in Round 2 didn't finish on time. I have been given both matches as losses (I was ahead on one of them, behind on the other one) and also penalized (which came with a message saying I spent too long on my turns and therefore I was penalized). Im not sure how to get in touch with the staff organizing and following these tournaments, but this is just wrong:
-As soon as the second round started, I did my turn and waited 5 DAYS for the other party to do his... that's why we couldn't finish.
-Except for one day, I played 1 or 2 turns every day.
I'd like to know why I get penalized at all. Im not asking to penalized the other player either, as he didn't do it to stall the game with an unfavorable position. Fairest would be giving the points as they were in the last turn (even thou each of us would've probably won 1 each).
cheers

Re: Penalized in Tournament by mistake ?!
The tournament system automatically calculates the time each player takes to answer each round, the player who takes the longest gets a penalty in the score, the amount of the penalty depends on the round you arrived in.
Re: Penalized in Tournament by mistake ?!
I still don't see how it is me being penalized when I had to wait 5 days for the other player to do his first turn.
If time is calculated automatically, did I have more hours against me because I live in a time zone of +6h difference? I haven't even been told the hours against me vs his hours against me...
If I do my turns in the afternoon/evening, and the other player makes them in his afternoon/evening (when Im sleeping), that means he can do his move just 6h after I do mine, but I gotta wait till next day, meaning it counts more hours against me. So again, this whole system is not even judge by someone who can actually look at the situation?
I feel Ive been penalized unfairly, because Ive been making my turns fairly consistent, on time, and totally within a doable time limit, as the rest of my games prove.

Your point of view is reasonable, but the tournaments are small and they're free, so we can't expect Slitherine to dedicate lot's of staff to adjudicate or administrate them. They are automated.
I can understand why you're annoyed, but you need to just to chalk it up to "life isn't always fair" and enjoy the next round of games.

If he has had 5 days plus 6 hours a day for 9 days that is 5x24 + 9x6 = 174 hoursI still don't see how it is me being penalized when I had to wait 5 days for the other player to do his first turn.
If time is calculated automatically, did I have more hours against me because I live in a time zone of +6h difference?
And you have had 9x18 = 162 hours.
That is pretty close between you so it could easily have been either of you that got timed out.
With up to 24 moves in 14 days sometimes players need to be making 2 moves a day (and depending on the opponent that may mean playing at different times of the day) to get complete in the time. It can be tight, especially if there is a time difference but the alternative would be to have longer than two weeks per round which could well cause more problems.
Re: Penalized in Tournament by mistake ?!
Indeed that's the only solution for now... I just hope someone looks this up and considers changes to the penalty system, so that in case of doubt, no player receives penalty. And also, if it is automated, it is fairly easy to exploit.angusosborne wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 6:49 pm Your point of view is reasonable, but the tournaments are small and they're free, so we can't expect Slitherine to dedicate lot's of staff to adjudicate or administrate them. I was 35-26 in my favor in one of the games, and around 32-38 in his favor in the second one, and the result is: he gets in both games 75 points ans I get 20+19? Again, I had to wait 5 days for his first turn... XD
Re: Penalized in Tournament by mistake ?!
The short length, 14 days, and the time out issues are exactly why I gave up on Slitherene tournaments. I live in a very different timezone, Japan, than a majority of players and play pretty promptly most days, but lucky to get in more than a turn a day most of the time. This led to many of my games timing out, though I "won" all of these due to my very prompt turn around in submitting turn.
I stick to player organized events these days and have a higher level of satisfaction from such events.

Hi! Another weird time-zone here. I agree Karvon. I still go in the Slitherine tournaments, but the time pressure adds a bit more stress than the tournaments organised in this forumKarvon wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 12:40 am The short length, 14 days, and the time out issues are exactly why I gave up on Slitherene tournaments. Yes, Im based in China and that really impacts the timing. Where could I get info into players' organized events ?
Re: Penalized in Tournament by mistake ?!
There are events fairly regularly organized and advertized in this forum. Some campaigns have openings from time-to-time which are also advertized here.

You also might drop a PM to kronenblatt as he's running quite a few events here. He may have an opening you might enjoy.
