Re: The Russian Campaign 1941 / The West Campaign 1940 (and other battles) - All Multiplayer
Hi
Just want to put on record my thanks to the guys who put this awesome scenario together. I can honestly say it's proving to be one of my all-time favourite wargaming experiences.
Had a good first game playing Germans against KarisFraMauro and currently on Turn 68 in a truly epic return match with me playing as Russia. He has captured Leningrad, has the western bank of Moscow and has a very tenuous hold in one hex of Stalingrad. However, after 30 turns of despair every time he had a turn and returning hope when I managed to plug the gaps with the higher RPs Russia receives, I think I might just be turning the tide with a good counterattack on the plain south-west of Stalingrad and could be about to recapture Krasnodar, but there is still fierce fighting round Moscow which could go either way.
One particular thing I like is that the reinforcements are well timed and the rewards for holding cities are just right. Those IS-1s coming up from the east have always arrived at the front just as it was about to collapse and I think I would have lost by now if I hadn't managed to hold onto the reward cities for just long enough to get the bonus RPs (and of course deny them to Karis).
Now playing another game against nero156 with me as Germans so we'll see how that goes. Did get Kiev on Turn 15 but he didn't defend much forward and I'm only now coming up against his prepared defences so the real fighting is just going to start now. But I have stolen one very effective tactic used against me by Karis and I hope it will swing the balance
To cut a long post short - amazing work on a fantastic scenario - you have my respect and gratitude!

I haven't been playing Order of Battle much lately, this could be a good reason to get back into it

more forest north of Moscow, more difficult terrain. a little more reinforces for russians. but I think its too much now. Maybe we have to reduce russians a littl. Please let me know your sugesstions. A lot of depend on german player how is he playing.

It's a tough fight as Germany but I seem to be doing okay. In other matters, is it just me or is Order of Battle kind of on its last legs? Aside from my game against Parreigo I have zilch going on, and I notice there aren't even any other people online right now...

Karis,
I'm playing German side now, more difficult than USSR.
Regarding the game, I hope it's not declining, although there aren't many multiplayer matches going on now either. I really like the game and the community. We could keep it going a long time as long as there's a server maintained for user-produced content. Erik and Bru look like they'll churn it out for some time to come.
Maybe it'll light back up after a while...

Oh man its been so long since I downloaded a new scenario I hope I remember how to do it
These days it's only the Russian Campaign that I play anyway, heh. As always thanks for the hard work and I highly recommend those not familiar with it to have a go.

Thanks KarisFraMauro !
I made a small mistake on the railway bridge east of Moscow, fixed in version 3.71

anybody want to play 3.71?
Re: The Russian Campaign 1941 / The West Campaign 1940 (and other battles) - All Multiplayer
Happy to be your opponent for a try at version 3.71. I've never played this scenario so you probably have me at a huge disadvantage. However, I take being overrun and defeated fairly well
. So- only thing I need now is the link for 3.71. If you could either send it along or point me to it I'll download. As soon as I get it installed, we can begin. Should be fun!

All the scenarios are available in the first post of this discussion
I'll wrap up my current game before moving on to another though.

rm16
Remember, its going very easy for germans in first rounds, then russian are stronger and stronger.
The goal is to have minimum losses, and going East as fast as possible. You have to keep Lenningrad till round 40bcs
side which have it round 40 get reward.
If you go slowly and have a casuaulties you will have a problem in rounds 35-45.
Keep air force in good shape, also artilery its very important for germans

I might. Took half a year away from the game after discovering Rimworld but thanks to Jaydent I'm getting back into it a little.

My affection for OOB is undiminished even as I must admit I am looking forward to dating HQS WWII when she finally makes an appearance.
I have been largely consumed with a couple very intense games games of Market-Garden with the Admiral including helping Erik playtest an updated 2v2 version. Then the tournament started.
That a new PBEM server was stood up suggests to me that Slitherine et al still see investing in OOB as worthwhile, though I am at something of a loss to see how they monetize it without additional DLCs.

Have been trying to hold Karis' Hitlerite horde for three months now and enjoying immensely (exc: the gazillion Luftwaffe air strikes I have to endure each turn)
One seeming bug is that while the Poles get some RPs (+800 after I held Leningrad) they don't ever seem to get CPs nor can reconstitute lost units.
Also really wish this could get ported to Erik's MicroMod so regular infantry could create MG nests and heavy infantry could create bunkers
