In this experimental update, the additional editor zones from Panzer Corps version 1.32 are used to make strategic transports and basic German naval units "purchasable". Strategic bombers are used as "payment tokens", as a workaround to game engine limitations.

You want an additional axis sea transport?
1. Buy the cheapest German strategic bomber (~530 prestige).
2. Land that strategic bomber at Kopenhagen airfield.
3. At the end of the axis turn, the bomber is then removed (accepted as payment) and an additional sea transport is unlocked.

Went with [starting number of transports] + [max number of purchases] * [transports per purchase] for now:
8 + 3*1 sea transports
5 + 3*2 train transports (one strat bomber buys two trains)
2 + 3*1 air transports (for land units)

So you start with 5 available trains. You can make three purchases. Each purchase gives you two additonal trains and costs you one strat bomber (~530 prestige).



You lost too many submarines in the Atlantic and want some more for a late Operation Sealion?

1. Buy the cheapest German strategic bomber (~530 prestige).
2. Land that strategic bomber at Kiel airfield.
3. At the end of the axis turn, the bomber is then exchanged for a submarine at strength 5.
4. You can then move the new understrength sub to a friendly port and as usual bring it to full strength (faster if switched to submerged mode before reinforcing).


The upgrade options are announced with text messages once available.
Airfields used for strategic bomber payments now have special names from the start and even markers once payment is possible.


For this experimental version, the subs, s-boats and DDs even inherit the heroes and experience from the strat bombers that are used as payment. So you may even exchange some veteran strat bomber for a veteran DD...

Not much time for detailed testing at the moment, so this is marked as "experimental".

This update makes Panzer Corps version 1.32 mandatory, since it uses additional editor zones

BE scenario
- BE scenario starting prestige lowered to 50 for the campaign starts (which allow heroes)
- Strategic transports are now more limited at the start, but later on can be "purchased/unlocked", using strategic bombers as payment tokens
- German submarines, S-boats and destroyers can be "purchased" from turn 16 onwards, also using strategic bombers as payment tokens
- Airfields with special upgrade purposes have special names (eg "Airfield (Fighter)" for the one near Wien, "Airfield (Submarine)" near Kiel)
- Script upgrades from Bf 109 to Fw 190 cost 200 prestige instead of 150, but you have 4 script upgrades instead of 3
- Kairo and the Suez canal should not be left totally unguarded now

Minimal changes in this update.
No further testing, no progress on all the units, scripts and balancing I am working on.
Just no time at the moment.

Not even time to look for another file hosting option.

The Italians got some upgrade family separators improving the UI, and some were missing for the Germans.
They only work properly for newly started campaigns, as usual with unit roster additions in the Panzer Corps engine.


Perhaps the added SdKfz 10/4 upgrade options can help goose_2 in his Afrika Korps playthrough (after all I clutter his upgrade screen with all those separators that do not work for an existing campaign).

This is his latest Afrika Korps youtube video, where he just finished Syria and starts thinking about the upgrades for Iraq:

Just applied and I checked I can now upgrade the mobil aa into a Tiger....Now I need to decide...upgrade the mobile aa or the Churchill into the Tiger? so many fun options is what I love about this campaign

- Decreased prestige reward at each campaign transition from end of "Iraq" scenario until end of "Arabia" scenario (by 1000)
- Iraq scenario removed all Italian aux planes in campaign mode (and one in scenario mode), lowered some reward prestige
- Basra scenario changed 5 Axis aux units to 4 core units/3 core slots
- Persia scenario added another US P-47
- Caucasus scenario topography somewhat corrected (less flat land between Yerevan and the Caucasus), needs more work

After some very interesting upgrade discussion with goose_2, this patch buffs the Flammpanzer III and balances the very heavy 7-8 inch artillery pieces. Those arties are still great, especially due to their enormous range, just not game breaking against entrenched units.

Also some more changes to Persia and significant changes to the Caucasus scenario. The latter one now actually resembles the Caucasus area and Baku is not a weakly defended minor speed bump anymore.

- Flammpanzer III buffed in various ways (including rof from 11 to 12)

- British BL 7.2 inch soft attack increased from 14 to 15, rate of fire decreased from 6 to 5
- "meng" trait (ignores entrenchment) removed from 7-8 inch artillery across nations

- Persia scenario aux units changed (eg the "air patrol" is now a long range scout plane), better enemy Spitfires
- Caucasus scenario a lot more topography changes, more rivers, fantasy road through the Caucasus removed
- Caucasus scenario more enemy units at strategic locations (Baku!), more modern enemy airforce
- Caucasus scenario much fewer air transports, new aux bridging unit provided and several minor changes
- Caucasus scenario turn limit increased to somewhat account for the changes above (but it got tougher overall)

On November 28, 42, one of the most unusual battles of the Second World War took place.
It took place at an altitude of more than 4 thousand meters.
A group of about 100 NKVD units was formed to knock out the Germans from the "Shelter 11". Armed with machine guns, mortars and sniper rifles. The group was commanded by Lieutenant Grigoryants. Soviet climbers bypassed enemy defenses along the glacial slope and attacked "Shelter 11" from above. This was unexpected for the Germans. The fight lasted several hours. Out of a hundred people, only 4 fighters remained alive. "Shelter 11" remained in the hands of the Germans, but Soviet climbers showed the ability to fight battles on verticals.

Hi Locarnus, thanks for all your work on this. I installed PzC 1.32, the BE mod 2.4, and the 2023-05 version of your mod. I don't use GME for mods, so I installed a new folder for PzC Gold, called it "BE 2.4 Locarnus 2023-05" installed v1.31 & v1.32 updates, then copied the BE mod 2.4 into the new folder, and the 2023-05 version of your mod into the folder (always overwriting in each case). This is how I install all mods that require GME (including a separate BE) and don't have problems this way.

I started the AK campaign and got your version of the "Reconnaissance in Force" scenario. All worked fine, until the start of turn 3 when the message box comes up saying "Mission objectives have changed!" when every hex on the map has a blank objective icon (except actual objectives, they still have the relevant flag). The original map and units are still there, and I can still play, but obviously it's not much fun.

I took a screenshot, but tried posting it using the insert image button and adding the file path to the image on my HD, but it didn't work.

Hm, that is a new one for me :wink:
I just checked by installing fresh steam PzC, 1.32, BE 2.4, and Locarnus Addon 2023-05 by overwriting (without GME) and could not reproduce.

Just to exclude some issues that have come up before:
1) Did you use a fresh, vanilla Panzer Corps Gold install as the baseline for your new "BE 2.4 Locarnus 2023-05" install?

2) Do you have the steam or non-steam version, since patch 1.32 has different exe files for either and the steam exe has to be renamed? Oh, and version 1.32 does not need 1.31 before. Just fresh PzC Gold and then the 1.32 Patch (with different exe for steam and no-steam versions). Though this should not have made a difference. It should say "Version 1.32 Steam" in the menu screen, directly above the language flags (only after installing 1.32 patch & before installing BE 2.4).

3) Do you have the language set to English (small flag icons at the bottom of the menu screen, see first post of this thread)?

4) Did you start the AK campaign from the bottom left picture (showing "1941-1945" and a desert camo tank with infantry on a beach, see first post of this thread) or did you attempt the bottom left icon for the DLC (showing a stylized palm tree and a Wehrmacht cross)?

Oh, and there will be a patch for the later parts of the ahistorical winning path of AK (probably after the weekend), so I recommend keeping a savegame from the end of Alam Halfa (when the paths split between historical losing path and ahistorical winning path).

Thanks for your quick reply and suggestions.

I use the Steam version for DLCs and non-Steam for mods. This is the set up I use for mods:

1. On my HD, I have a fresh install of PzC Gold v1.31 that never gets used or touched.
2. When I want to try a new mod, I create a new folder (for example Panzer Corps BE-AK) and copy the contents of my fresh install into it.
3. I then copy the mod contents into this new folder, overwriting files.
(in this case, I copied the v1.32 exe (non-Steam version) then the BE mod 2.4, and the 2023-05 version of your mod)
So, on the root of my HD C:\ drive I have an untouched install of PzC Gold v1.31 and several folders each with their own mod.

To answer the rest of your questions:
1) Yes, as above.
2) non-Steam, I checked the menu screen and it says 1.32.
3) Language is set to English.
4) Yes, I started from the bottom left picture "on the beach".

I don't know if it makes any difference, but my desktop runs Windows 11. I'll try installing again later on my laptop, which runs Window 10 to see what happens and let you know.

Updates:
1. I tried playing on after the "Mission objectives have changed!" box when the map becomes covered with blank objective hexes. Later on in the scenario, there is another "Mission objectives have changed!" box (Tobruk is heavily fortified) and at this point all the blank objective hexes disappear and the map returns to normal for the rest of the scenario.
2. I installed it all on my Windows 10 laptop and the issue was still there.
3. I tracked down the graphic that appears in every hex after the first "Mission objectives have changed!" message. It is: \Graphics\Overlays\victoryhex.png
4. I played the scenario again with "victoryhex.png" renamed and it prevented the issue, although I realise that this may cause other issues in later scenarios.

Any thoughts?

Hm, very strange indeed. I have no idea what could cause this issue.

Some things you could try:
1) Could you try uploading a savegame from turn 4 as an attachment?

2) Uploading a screenshot using https://imgur.com/, showing what it looks like after turn 3. Perhaps I can make out a pattern, as it sounds like some bugged script behaviour. Normally the script in turn 3 should only apply that victory hex graphic & functionality to a few select towns.

3) Using PzC version 1.31 instead of 1.32. As far as I remember, I did not use the extra functionality of 1.32 for the Africa Corps campaign (but definitely for the huge BE scenario). But since I use the 1.32 editor, it might have screwed up some of the scenarios simply by saving them? No guarantees, but something to try.

4) Using the steam version as the basis. Instead of copying your untouched matrix version, you could do the same with the steam version (this is what I do, with the 1.32 patch for the steam version).
