Shooting Routers? Why bother I know BUT target ?

Post by Benvartok »

Reasonbly pointless exercise unless you get 3 or more hits to force a death roll and or are just plain mean  :!:

However the question is more about target priority. If a routing BG meets the definition as the priority target does a shooting BG have to target them or can they discern between the routing BG and a steady or non broken BG and target them instead (in range/arc etc)?

Or can you force another wibble on minus 3 to stop them being rallied this bound? Which they couldn't because there are opposing BGs within shooting range therefore within 6mu.....

Anyway.....

The Target Priority section on page 81 makes no distinction between broken and unbroken troops - therefore you cannot distinguish.

Shooting at a broken BG does not per se prevent them being rallied as they cannot drop a level this turn - indeed there is no point testing as they cannot drop a level from there. The only thing that might help is if they lose a base which might make it more difficult for them. As you say, in most cases the fact that you are shooting means that enemy are within 6MU - unless by HArt.

It is worse than that - shooting at broken BGs can't infloct a death roll.
The top of p90 says "Combat between unbroken battle groups, wether by impact, shooting, or melee, uses the same combat mechanism."
P100 says "There is no explicit shooting or close combat against, or by, broken troups."

Ah! Good point - does this then mean that they cannot be a target?

I would say this truncates any discussion and broken troops cannot be a shooting target. Anyway, this seems a very rare case, because broken troops move each JAP they will be out of range very shortly. We never meet a such situation.

Yes I agree - my initial response was from only part of the rules - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

Indeed ...

routers are in enough trouble without wasting arrows on them ...

best thing vs routers is to launch some LH at them and run them into the ground ... both good FOG tactic and highly realistic use of LH.

But if the LH are in range and have a chance to shoot before they can be launched, do they need to treat the routers as a valid target for target priority? I suspect not from the prior discussion but it would be good to confirm this.

But this does not answer the question as shock troops must charge or test for them, even though they will get no impact or melee at combat.

I agree, even if I don't think we can exclude that sometimes bow armed troops have shot to some hatred enemies in rout
Even if this is happened, in game terms has no influence.

Thanks for the discussion. I will read page 100 further but it seems fairly clear that routers are not the priority target or in fact a target at all.

I will pass this on to those concerned. It came up in a club competition game.

Righto,
Ben
