Panzerkrieg scenario Voronezh

Post by amenhotep13 »

Hello,

I'm unable to finish the scenario against the IA.
I take all Gold and Silver flags (even the russian entry hex at the far east of the map) before turn 28 and the game keeps saying "DEFEAT".

What happens ?
What does mean "reach to the Don" ?

Thanks for the help

Hard to say what's going on without a save. There's another objective coming in after the scenario started, which requires you to destroy 5 specific Soviet units (always recommended to check the blue ? for objective details; edit: you can also check the exact hexes needed for the "Advance" objective as they're marked).

We check to ensure it get's properly triggered, but if you said you took all gold and silver flags it should certainly appear in your case.

That objective which is enabled later says to destroy 5 armored units while the trigger requires 8 or more (out of 10)?

Yeah, that may have changed without the description being updated. We will fix that. Technically it should work tho if you destroy those 8.

Maybe clarify the mission description in another way, too. Here is the counterattack force, AI Team 11. It looks like, originally, the objective was to destroy the five tanks in this team but the trigger was written to include any units in the team, including infantry, artillery, and recon. A better description might be "Destroy at least 80% (8 units) of the enemy strike force headed for Staryy Oskol."

Hello,

I think I know what's going on... It's a real bug

On my first try i circled Staryy Oskol to starve the units inside the pocket. Then i took the other objectives (Gold) to achieve primary goals and win the scenario. The result was Defeat. No change in the objectives

Looking at your comments, i tried another game, also circling Staryy Oskol but this time taking the town just before getting the last gold point. Same result : Defeat. No objectives added

I took another try circling and taking Starvyy Oskol. This time i got new objectives (destroy the russian counterstrike) and was able to win the scenario.

So i think you should either :
*let aside the russian counterstrike if the player does'nt want to take Starvyy Oskol, without blocking the win
*mark Starvyy Oskol as Gold since it's mandatory to unlock the russian counterstrike (wich is mandatory to win)

best regards,

This is where you are getting hung up, oh great Pharaoh. Yes, you have a point about the color of the flag. And you have uncovered an issue with another mission description. (Thank you for your perseverance.)

See if you can see what I am talking about in this screen print of the map (in the editor) — open it in another tab or download it and open it with your image viewer.

For the primary objective "Advance to the Don," the designer is requiring these four victory points to be taken (green circles). Two of them are on the river, but two are to the west: Kastomoye and Staryy Oskol. For some reason, he made those victory point flags silver. I looked at the trigger; he points to each spot specifically rather than counting flags by color, so there is no reason why these two western location should not be gold. As silver, they are misleading you, apparently.

All four of those victory points must be taken to complete "Advance to the Don," so that explains why your starving Staryy Oskol tactic does not work and you get a Defeat in that case. So all four of those victory points should be gold.

As for the mission description for "Advance to the Don," it says "To eliminate the natural barrier of the Don River, two major crossing points must be captured." That's referring to the two victory points on the river. I does not mention Kastomoye and Staryy Oskol. Therefore, the mission description should say something like "To eliminate the natural barrier of the Don River, two major crossing points must be captured. At the same time, we must be in control of Kastomoye and Staryy Oskol in order to safeguard our rear from counterattack."

Like this, including the gold flag:

As far as when you "tried another game, also circling Staryy Oskol but this time taking the town just before getting the last gold point. Same result : Defeat. No objectives added," my theory is that you waited too long. That new objective activates as soon as you move two land units within one hex of Staryy Oskol. You may not have noticed it, and the scenario ended with that objective enabled and unfulfilled even though you took Staryy Oskol at the last moment.

This post and my last one are only recommendations from me, a mere forum moderator. OOB officials will decide how best to edit this scenario in order to address your legitimate concerns, Amenhotep.

May your reign last for many years, Pharaoh, and may the Nile flood in every one of them! May the gods smile upon thee and grant thee much power and wealth. :)
