Crashing and error message

Post by Warg1 »

Hi there

I'm playing the Battle of Mohi scenario and it was all going fine until I started to received these error messages when trying to load up the next turn. The opposition turn would replay but then these messages would appear.

This appears to be the same error as reported by Ironclad in the Brasso battle in the same user-created module.

https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=110517

The module is "First Mongol Invasion of Hungary (1241-1242)" by Galahad14.

As Pip said:

"That error code happens when something has gone (badly) wrong. My guess would be that there might be some cross script calling going on, and one of the scripts is missing.

It is an old mod that probably needs updating."

I tried the MP version myself and got the same error message at a similar point in the game.

The thing is that the module does not in fact contain any modded scripts.

I will ask Pip to take a further look.

This crash bug was due to a bug in the editor-based reinforcements system - which neither Paul nor I used in the official FOG2 or FOG2M scenarios, hence it has taken this long to discover it and pin it down.

It will be fixed for FOG2 Medieval and FOG2 Ancients in the next game updates. Galahad's MP modules should then work correctly.

Thanks for looking into it. Well at least I know when the reinforcements are due to arrive in this scenario now!

I'm getting a crash message when loading the latest turn in a plain Fog II Med generated skirmish:

***Unhandled Exception ExpCode 0xC00000005 ExpFlags
0 ExpAddress 0x0055D620 Please report!

So, I'm reporting it :)

Thanks.

Was this SP or MP?

What were you doing (or was the game doing) when the crash occurred?

If it happens again can you post the error.log file from:

/Documents/My Games/FieldOfGloryMedieval (for Medieval)
/Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2 (for Ancients)

You need to back this up before reloading the game, otherwise it will be overwritten.

Actually not, that is a UI page definition file.

error.log is in the specified directory, but shows up in File Explorer as a Text Document. However, if you look at the properties you will see that it is in fact called error.log

error.log location.jpg

error.log properties.jpg

Anyway, as I say, it is no good copying it except immediately after the crash, because it is overwritten every time you start the program.

That file I pasted in was called error.log. I'll start the turn again to repeat the crash and send you the file.

Not a problem. I will pass this on to Pip to see if he can figure out what might have happened.

In case it helps, I find it behaves exactly the same whether it's single or multiplayer. I.e. it crashes while loading the game.

Pip will be looking into it further, but asks:

"I do note that he is not using a real driver. Could he be running the game under Linux or something?"

Also, could you let me know what your opponent's username is, so I can try to identify the instance and download the file for Pip.
